Prove to me that invective is not crutch.
If you miss one shot you have three more.
Regenerating ammo and can fire it off quickly and right away.
Can kill people at range from continuous weak damage from the spray.

I'd have better odds proving god doesn't exist to a Christian then convincing you to think differently. Also quick fact. Invectives ammo regen works differently depending on the mode. In pve the recharge timer continues regardless of death. In pvp it resets each time you die.

Personally, I wouldn't use an weapon as a crutch. Too dangerous, and shotgun wouldn't be a good fit to work properly.

The fact that you only mentioned it melting bladedancers is probably not working in your favor here. Try using the wave-attack-thingy.

Shotguns are close range weapons that do massive damage, blade dancing into any shotgun is risky not just invective

Just used it for the jolly Holliday step 5. Was awesome against blade dancer. No range though, also takes three Rapid hits to kill. I would kill them but I would also die by a punch to the face. Don't see how is a crutch though.
