The flood and other events are justified as being acceptable so we could have free will.(I'd argue that we really don't have it anyway, but that's another discussion) Yet it was the devil that encouraged humans to eat from the tree of knowledge. To even look at this solely as metaphorical, the devil set us free. God was keeping us as thought slaves. Remember kids, god's kill count per the bible is in the millions. While the devil's is around ten.
