Maths question: Black Spindle vs 1000-Yard Stare
In the hard raid with some fellow LFGers earlier, doing Golgorath on my alt. My light level was 310 and I was using a 311 1000-Yard-Stare. My Black Spindle is only 295 light, hence why I wasn't using it. The Fireteam leader kept yelling about how we should be using Black Spindle because it does crazy damage and we wouldn't waste time reloading, and was getting particularly frustrated at me for not using it.
My question is: Was he right to? Even with the light reduction I would take by equipping the 295, would it still do more damage than the 311 Stare, assuming all other variables (like the amount of time I was crit-hitting Golg) stayed the same?
I would have tested it but a) the guy yelling at me was really annoying and I didn't want him to be right and b) I'm too lazy to work it out myself
Tl:dr: Does a 295 Black Spindle do more crit damage to Golgorath than a 311 1000-yard stare?
Edit: The general consensus seems to be that the Black Spindle is better even with the 1-2 level light drop, but that it doesn't matter what I use provided I'm doing enough damage. Reckon I'll stick with the 1000YS as I feel more comfortable using it. Thanks everyone!

1 AntwortenI use a stare solar burn triple tap and firefly 5 in chamber so 7 shots before reload always do highest damage unless someone runs malace, but I'm normally on thrall duty at golgaroth unless we run 1 ball strat then I get to show how much lead he can hold I prefer triple tap over white nail as I get ammo added, if I land all crits I get 35ish shots off instead of the 24 I can hold where black spindle only gives you the 24

1.) I prefer the 1000 Y S ! 2.) Did he die? then who cares .. 3.) "The Fireteam leader kept yelling " ... NOT helpful, not a good leader . . He should direct traffic , call out the strat, ask once who has what & then go, NO YELLING REQUIRED (lol, like that) Eyes up Guardian ! Njoy !

9 AntwortenThe light on the gun does not directly correspond to the damage. Your overall light level will determine your damage output, which then relates to the impact of the gun. If either the black spindle or 1000-yard lowers your overall light, you will in turn do less damage

I do not reload at all in the DPS phase, just cycle the weapons and by the time you get back to the primary its time to get out of pool. People really under estimate Cocoon.

I prefer 1000ys but that's primarily due to mine having: Triple Tap Casket mag Spray & Play Sure I can't bust out 23 rounds in a row without reloading but busting out 7 before i need to reload and that reload being incredibly fast due to spray & play is good enough to still be near the top of the damage boards.

Upgrade that spindle, it does much more damage.

I tend to use my Sleeper Simulant and my 1000 yard stare. My 1k stare has spray and play and oiled frame. Plus i have sniper reload gauntlets...fastest reload speed on a sniper ive ever seen.

It all depends on your skill and your other gear (any bonuses to snipers in particular) I use the 1000 and find that I'm still matching damage, if not exceeding, those who are using the spindle

long as your finding ammo the black spindle will do higher DPS. its sustained shooting helps alot. if your not as lucky with the special ammo drops, might not matter as much as you will run out and have to switch to a primary or heavy.

6 AntwortenBlack spindle is the highest DPS gun in the game period IF you land all precision shots. That does NOT mean it does the most damage over all. My recommendation would be for war priest use your 1000 yard stare cause you have more time to do damage overall. For golgoroth I would recommend using black spindle though just because you only have a short time to do damage.

I use my eirenne at 314 and do plenty damage i never had a problem killing golgoroth or anything for that matter so requiring black spindle is just -blam!-ing stupid

Depends on who your fighting spindle is an exotic and has higher DPS than stare from perks. However, once you get to the daughters you will want to use the touch of malice because of the perks and aura of immortality. So you will have to equip a legendary sniper so both actually.

Yes black spindle is a god sniper. I have a 317 Yasmin that does over 16,000, my 299 spindle did an extra 1,000 damage. Plus if you're good enough you'll never have to reload and that makes a difference.

Just up your Spindle. It's much better than 1000 yard at the first 2 bosses. And the last two bosses you can have it equipped again.

Light level is all your equipment added together and divided by 10. If you were 310 and change a 311 weapon to a 295, that's a difference of 16. Average total light 3100 Minus 16=3084 Divided by 10=308(even rounded) But thats not including other variations in your gear, 308 is the lowest but you may only go to 309. The next is your light level compared to the enemies but the game gets wishy washy on this, and is not uniform in all aspects. So similar to levels, where every level lower than the enemy, you take more and do less damage, light levels do this but have a bit more room, 1-5 levels is still ok whereas 3 normal levels lower got ridiculous.

I've been top 1 or 2 for damage at war priest and golgoroth in my last few raid using 317 1000 yard stare and 308 sleeper. Used to be a big drop switching to spindle and a lower light heavy but I've got a 317 launcher now so might try using spidle.

I'd rather run with malice and 1000 all day. My 1000 has spray and play, paired with oiled frame (faster reload) and raid gloves with faster reload while in the aura or using fast sniper reload gloves, I could easily fire off all 18 then switch to heavy when I'm done before the time runs out.

I run 1000 yard stare for EVERYTHING it's the best. Plus, I don't like the spindle. But Im one of the gaze grabbers so I usually run red death at golgoroth.
