Maths question: Black Spindle vs 1000-Yard Stare
In the hard raid with some fellow LFGers earlier, doing Golgorath on my alt. My light level was 310 and I was using a 311 1000-Yard-Stare. My Black Spindle is only 295 light, hence why I wasn't using it. The Fireteam leader kept yelling about how we should be using Black Spindle because it does crazy damage and we wouldn't waste time reloading, and was getting particularly frustrated at me for not using it.
My question is: Was he right to? Even with the light reduction I would take by equipping the 295, would it still do more damage than the 311 Stare, assuming all other variables (like the amount of time I was crit-hitting Golg) stayed the same?
I would have tested it but a) the guy yelling at me was really annoying and I didn't want him to be right and b) I'm too lazy to work it out myself
Tl:dr: Does a 295 Black Spindle do more crit damage to Golgorath than a 311 1000-yard stare?
Edit: The general consensus seems to be that the Black Spindle is better even with the 1-2 level light drop, but that it doesn't matter what I use provided I'm doing enough damage. Reckon I'll stick with the 1000YS as I feel more comfortable using it. Thanks everyone!

How about you infuse your spindle to use on warpriest and golgoroth so none of us have to do math.

Not really. Spindle looks good on paper and does do good damage but honestly some 1000 yards are better and as long as you're keeping up on damage there shouldn't be a problem.

I use a 290 black spindle on the raid. Does insane damage.

Honestly you use what you want. As long as you're killing him it doesn't actually matter.

1 AntwortenAt that level, the issue may be moot as the spindle would do less damage per shot then the stare. However, the spindle doesnt have reload time when used on golgoroth. If your spindle was 310+, id say you were an idiot for not using it. But at 295, meh.

Fu*ck that guy, use the 1000-yard stare if you want to. I use it all the time and have never had an issue. People trying to dictate your loadout are assholes.

1 AntwortenPersonally I would rather use my raid sniper and pulse and leave space for sleeper simulant or even a raid heavy. The cocoon perk is really good so just blast through a round of special and straight into pulse or heavy ammo each round. We managed to 5 man war priest on hard last night and I was consistently doing most damage

Shoot both snipers on the same level enemy, then do the maths and timings.

My 1000 yard stare has the reload speed when mag is empty perk, i doubt the difference is much between that and black spindle is much. Especially considering i am saving an exotic slot and it isn't punishing to miss a crit now and again.

Spindle for golgoroth. 1000 yard with triple tap for warpriest because you can shoot 3 bullets and reload. The damage phase is longer and you end up with around 30 rounds if you keep reloading and have sniper rifle ammo buff.

thousand yard is good enough. spindle is fine but it's a personal preference.

11 Antwortenthe black spindle can shoot all 18 bullets into the bosses without reloading so how can you beat that! Can't! Amazing gun!

When it comes to slow moving, easy flinching bosses nothing compares to the spindle, if I'm killing adds or just majors or regular ultras (outside of raid) I use my eirene

Each shit may do less but you would get 2 to 3 times the amount of shots off, so yes use your black spindle

All I can do is tell you numbers from my Black Spindle. It was 308 and I was 309 doing the fight. It did about 122k per shot and I could get about 16-18 shots off before needing to leave as long as I didn't get unstable light. Another guy had a 1000 yard stare doing around 90k per shot. He got about 15 into him. His was over 300. Not sure the exact number. I don't think anything can really compete with spindle on that particular fight. Edit: These numbers are with Weapons of Light and tether of course.
