I've read enough in the forums and played Destiny enough to finally get my opinion on this...and the fact that I'm posting this means it's really bad. Chances are this won't matter, but when it's this bad, even trying to be heard is better than nothing. To save any readers time, I will cover my experience with Destiny thus far, the point I'm making against TTK, other pros and cons, and a question that sums the whole post up.
At first, it was fun. Fairly good story, fun game, a bit too much grinding, but for a while, I managed. When vault of glass became my target, it became all about working towards a goal and triumphing. By this point, I was well happy with the character I had created, but still needed better gear, which I finally got. I had slaughtered the vex and wore their metal as my armor.
Come first DLC, the hive beckoned for my light and I accepted the challenge wearing my gear from the vault, and although some of it didn't come to par with the DLC at times, I found it was never impossible. I finished what Eris started and jumped into hell apart of a 6 guardian team to kill Crota, a god of the hive, and wear them as my armor. My hunter's legend was forged further and the gear was set to match her style.
Now came house of wolves, and by now, I knew how to effectively use my gunslinger class with the assistance of aclyophage symbiote, as it became amazing the world of difference an extra shot actually made. It was the exotic that made my hunter seem like the legend I forged. Me. Not Bungie, not my friend, but me. I was ecstatic to hear that we can bring up legendary to the new level caps in house of wolves. Eventually, I settled on iron banner gear.
Were the effects as good as some armor? Hell no, but some were helpful. I chose iron banner gear, because it spoke as fitting my character. My hunter was my best in crucible and always participated in iron banner when my schedule allowed it. I would switch out between that and trials of osiris armor with gunslinger and bladedancer respectively. With golden gun, I used aclyophage symbiote and iron banner gear being a crucible victor and champion who wielded a gun that fired with the power of not three, but four suns - the armor told the story. With arc blade, I used khepri's sting and trials of osiris gear being a champion of osiris who saw the lighthouse twice in all its glory and was a deadly assassin to any who crossed me, friend or foe - the armor told the story.
Finally, the taken king. I was not looking forward to leaving behind certain things as they had been with me for many of my battles and the guns I had gotten used to were like comrades against the darkness. Everything I had forged MY legend with was useless. No more merit, no more story, just another armor piece ready for the dismantle pile because it isn't strong enough all of a sudden. I was reluctant at first, but eventually put away my favorite pieces in favor of that which did more damage and provided more defense. At first, it wasn't bad. The new guns felt a little different to handle, but they were effective like any new gun would be once you gave it a chance. I eventually settled on a legendary hand cannon from omolon and though it was a little tougher to handle, I started to like it. Fast forward a bit, I'm with my team of friends and we reach the taken king. After a pretty good final fight with the father of the "god" I killed, I was satisfied...until I realized just how unsatisfied I was.
I killed the big boss dude and was ready to see what happened in the raid after getting the right gear. But was that really me doing that? No, that was Bungie's idea of me killing their bad guy their way. The legend of my hunter I forged? Wiped. Aclyophage symbiote is one of the exotics that won't make year 2 along with khepri's sting. Is a lot of this based on a look I created? Yeah, I won't lie, it is, but only because the look I created was my hunter's story to legend as a gunslinger and bladedancer.
Ok, at this point, I might get grief over a story that turned out to be me being dissapointed over a look, but what was the point of this game again other than drive back the darkness? " Become Legend." That's exactly what I did. My hunter was deadly in the crucible, brought light to much of the darkness and made those exotics a real exotic armor piece. I was ready to forge MY legend further. Instead, I find my character stripped of her previous endeavors feeling like a new character rather than the character I created. "Well, it is just a new subclass and this is new armor so you have to get better armor and just get used to building up a new subclass again." Yeah, ok, I know, but...What if I don't feel like using the new subclass to kill oryx? What if instead of being a new-like character chasing after the boss I was a legend killing the father of a god I killed? "Well just build your gear up before going in and doing it." THAT ISN'T MY LEGEND THOUGH.
I went through so much with some of that year one gear it's simply not the same. Why can't we just infuse old gear?? It would level up staying on par with our progress and limit instant over powered status in PvE. As far as I'm concerned, I paid $40 for Bungie to have me strip my character of everything that made her the legend THAT I MADE HER and be told to make the legend THAT BUNGIE INTENDED AND ALLOWED HER TO BE. I find that I'm just playing a game not the way it was intended anymore, but rather the way I'm authorized to play. Does that really make it a game to play and enjoy anymore when I'm being forcefully guided in one way?
I apologize for anyone who finds this stupid, but the story and the whole legend thing is how invested I was with the real potential and good points of this game. I was almost always full support on this game, rarely did I really complain. Ok, other things I'm not happy with is I find some end game stuff like the heroic strikes being higher than the max level now being a little more effort than they're worth to some degree now when I have a few other options around it that are easier and there's not a lot of "in between difficulties" option which is annoying. I do like shaders, ships, etc. being in collection sets now that we can freely withdraw if previously owned (except for exotics which have a cost), but at the same time, why not do away with the vault (other than for general items like armor materials) and just give us legendary armor and weapon collections too? Overkill? Maybe, but it's not like I need every single year one sparrow...having a vault of glass collection makes more sense than that. Oh, and that spark that lets people jump to 25 and access taken king right away. When did games get to the point of skipping bosses? That's not how it works. Atheon was a boss, Crota was a boss, Skolas was a boss, Oryx is a boss - You kill one, move on to the next most challenging. I worked my way to Oryx, don't go telling me year one meant absolutely nothing. So far, the only pros are the new subclasses which are excellently done, and add a nice new mix to the fights as do swords which make an extremely useful melee weapon and nice addition to the heavy slot. The patrols in the dreadnought have actually been entertaining and the new strikes are well done and I highly enjoy them along with an excellent story. This whole thing is still far from being valued at the listed price though. Oh, and the whole omolon and suros and all those weird new brand guns? They're all stupid. Cool idea, I like some omolon designs, but I still think a lot of older stuff was better. Aesthetics have varied, but this DLC is a low point of them.
If anyone wants to claim I'm more about aesthetics here, fine, go ahead, I even admit a lot of it is just that, but isn't that part of why we would like the game? I mean, that's the only function class items served before...and changing colors is great, but color doesn't always mean everything and it varies from armor to armor so don't argue with me saying "that's what shaders are for." I already expressed there was a reason behind my looks for a character though and if you would say you're all about what's useful over looking awesome, if you so much as carefully picked your class item to be something you thought looked cool, then you've been paying attention to the aesthetics and decided what made you happy in the game based on them almost the same way I did, the difference being I had tried to choose what looked good and proved effective which was somewhat more limiting.
After triumphing in Destiny and becoming legend, why should we leave behind the gear that made us that legend?

3 AntwortenBearbeitet von XBAMNX: 9/19/2015 9:43:49 PMWhen they took all my legendary gear, i quit. No point in grinding this game if the rewards you seek are only useful for a limited time. It wouldnt be as bad, if the new weapons they make available are better...but i knew that wouldnt be the case. Each dlc that passed gave us shittier weapons. If theres one thing video games have taught me, its how to see a pattern, and after HOW, i knew it would continue.

1 AntwortenYou can't be disappointed with TTK. After all everyone at Bungie says it's awesome, what Destiny should have been like at release etc etc etc.
-
3 AntwortenI completely as a TTK content holder I am disappointed with how bungie has handled it. It feels like all the things we worked so hard for in year one they took away because … o right we didn't get an explanation. Now vanilla players get nothing out of it and the other 2 dlc I payed for are useless. I feel like I'm paying money for somebody to spit in my face and take away my property. I feel like they should bring everything back and have it for people who both have the taken king and those who don't otherwise this will lead to somebody who feels really cheated out making a law suit toward bungievision because at this point it's like extortion.
-
Bungle thinks that they are justified in strong-arming players to play the game Bungle's way. Lots of Desticle trolls back them up. As an experiment, try posting about how you want to play solo and still can't play the lowest level Strike by yourself. Then watch the fanboys descend in droves to tell you that "Bungie wants us to play in teams." As if it's our job to play the game the way Bungle wants.

5 AntwortenI could not agree with you more. Giving up things in the past completely destroys the stories and memories of the past. I think that Thomas Edison should have never invented the light bulb because it completely destroyed the memories and the legacies of all those lanterns that we used to use as a light source. Just like the pc/internet These things utterly destroyed the fond memories that everyone had of using their pens and pencils to keep track of everything they needed to. I personally think it's rubbish that bungie is putting a gun to our heads and forcing us to move forward. I personally always want to live in the past. Including in my personal life. Every day I drive up to my old high school and I hang around the halls remembering the good ole days. Hell, I'm 26 years old and I still use a fake id just because I don't want to destroy all the stories that I had using it.

2 AntwortenBearbeitet von The Redacted Pope Salty I: 9/22/2015 5:12:28 PMI think people are missing the point here. The Taken King has been billed as an expansion ,which, last time I checked, meant "bigger". So why is it our viable options for weapons and gear has shrunk rather than expanded? It breaks down like this: Before the "expansion", I (playing on Xbox) had 24 top-tier exotic weapons at my disposal, out of which I think 20 were from the original game. This expansion has made all but 8 of them obsolete anywhere outside of basic-level crucible. In other words, there have to be 16 new exotic weapons available just for year-one players to break even. Considering players in the U.S. paid the equivalent of 2/3 the cost of a new title - I understand European players are paying even more, as much for TKK as they would for a new title - it is not unreasonable for them to expect the amount of content - which includes gear and weapon options as well as activities - to increase by roughly the same ratio. In other words, if our original $60 investment came with 20 exotic weapons available for acquisition, we should reasonably be able to expect that number to increase by 12-14 in order for the additional content to be consistent with its asking price. Keep in mind, by "exotic", I mean top-tier weapons (I don't care what colour its icon is; a weapon with less attack power than a level 36 green weapon is NOT an exotic.). The new leveling system has made all but I believe five of the year-one exotics obsolete, meaning that for the game's elite weapon arsenal to be in line with its asking price, TKK would have to come with no fewer than 27 new exotic weapons - 15 to replace the now-obsolete ones, plus 12 in order to justify the $40 price tag. If the year-2 inventory slots in the tower kiosks are anything to go by, TKK is coming nowhere near that amount. Sure, we're getting some new weapons, but the expansion is, so far at least, taking away far more options than it is giving us. And it doesn't take a masters in marketing to understand that people don't like paying more for less. Personally, I don't have a problem with how everything in the Taken King is set up... IF it isn't permanent. A flaw, I felt, with House of Wolves was how quickly and easily people were able to cap everything out. I saw my first level 34 within hours of the DLC's release, and the etheric light system had Trials people in particular more or less maxed out within a couple of weeks. I'm glad to see a return to an emphasis on the journey. But I want that journey to take me to a better place than I was where I began. When the journey begins with every item I own becoming obsolete, it's hard for me to see how this is going to take me somewhere better. I, and most of the people I have talked to, feel like Bungie misled me with its promises about TKK. We were told the new "more traditional" leveling system would put less emphasis on light and the randomness associated with gear drops, when in fact the opposite is true. The sad thing is, I really want to be excited about the new expansion. I'm glad to see a renewed focus on story and PvE content (especially after the meager offerings of the last DLC), and what I've seen of the new activities I've absolutely loved. There is a lot to like about TKK. But, at least for the people I've talked to, it is all overshadowed by what's been taken away. And for what, exactly? It's genuinely baffling why, considering how TKK works, many of these changes were even made. What good is a traditional leveling system when level requirements have been placed with light requirements? What is the point of nerfing weapons that are headed for the dustbin? Why bother doubling vault space when virtually everything in it is all but obsolete? It's not a vault anymore; it's a museum. The whole thing just makes no sense. Is this all an effort to make the game more accessible to new players who might be scared off by these year-1'ers and all their big bad guns? Because if that is the motive, it's a bad one. The reason we year-1'ers have (had) all these big bad guns is because we invested a lot of time in the game, an investment that, thanks to TKK, seems to now be all for naught. Is it any wonder that isn't sitting too well with a lot of us?

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von TkoR Demon: 9/24/2015 9:36:54 PMSimple answer, they'll just rehash it back to you, in DLC you must buy. Literal example, Black Spindle. I'm sure Gjallarhorn will become Year 2 eventually, for the right price.

6 AntwortenBearbeitet von Azreal80: 9/21/2015 3:39:08 PMHere's my thoughts on TTK. Yeah so far it's been some fun. It's always fun shooting things in the face and getting new gear. And sure I have a few items I'm interested in getting. however I remember the past You see the problem for me now is I needed space and was looking at my vault. All those VoG weapons and gear are trash now. All the Crota gear and guns are junk. Everything from PoE and trials can be thrown away too. Even my old exotics are supposed to be re-purchased or found in the wild. But I have zero desire to do that now. I'm not going to spend as many hours , motes, marks or coins to get any year two exotic. Just don't see any point. I will just watch Fridays and see if Xur has it, I won't go out and grind for it. I ran the raid. Some parts at the beginning were great. It was a ton of fun doing the ship jump with friends. Then we got to Gorgoroth the orge. Well that's a interesting fight and not really an enjoyable one for me. It hit me yesterday when my friends came on an asked if I wanted to raid ? I said "from the beginning or at the ogre checkpoint ?" They said at the orge checkpoint. I looked at my character as I deleted some VoG gear and the useless found verdict. I remembered all the hours I spent trying to get that. Now garbage. I remembered all the hours banging our heads against hard Crota mode as we were one level below and had no heavy ammo and had to wait 5 minutes every wipe. And I remembered how easy Crota was after HoW and how useless blackhammer, Hunger of Crota, and all the gear is now. I then told my friends "no thanks have fun fighting Gorgoroth". The next day I asked how did it go? They spent hours there. Finally beat him and a few people got some gear that's 300. Now I can only think that 300 gear will be garbage by the next DLC. For me Bungie took all the carrots away and I've lost the interest in chasing them. I'll shoot some aliens in the face for fun. But I won't chase their carrots.

6 Antwortenyour right. bungie has decided what your legend will be for u. the option to be different and choose your own path was dead the day 2.0 was released. Might I suggest u pick up fallout 4? u can look and be whoever u want to be in that game and no greedy company will devalue your stats or remove previously unlocked content.

1 Antworten
...I'm just playing a game... the way I'm authorized to play. Does that really make it a game to play and enjoy anymore when I'm being forcefully guided...?
That's the most sobering point to take away from this game's changes and nerfs. Various restrictions boggle my mind with this game. Like you said:
why not do away with the vault (other than for general items like armor materials) and just give us legendary armor and weapon collections too?
Vault space was abysmally lacking for so long. Even now, you could argue the vault space is too cramped. Why not allow us to hoard our collections as we move forward through the journey that Destiny is supposed to be? Perhaps the publisher demands forms of planned obsolescence in order to keep constant updates relevant and pushing players to spend money. There's arguments for balancing issues with having hundreds of pieces of gear accumulate over time and still remain relevant. There's many variables worth considering, but at the end of the day the Loot becomes as much a part of the game as the content the game itself allows us to play with said loot. The game has appeared to be a hot mess for many people for the last year. Now all of a sudden it's supposedly way better all around, but for how long? Perhaps the hamster wheel is less exploitative and more fulfilling when you examine TTK content through a magnifying glass, but what of the next expansion? It seems that all of this is concerning to us because of the "shared world shooter" and always online approach. All of the content is provided through playlists and timed resets. These timed restrictions and other restrictions keep us coming back like FarmVille. It's good and bad in many ways. The only way it can be good for those of us that enjoy it is if we have sense of agency or customization with the game. I think you're right on with your concerns about how you built your legend, and she's been invalidated far too much up to this point.

18 AntwortenAs someone said, your legend is still growing. Does a knight wear the same suit of armour for ten years? Do you wear the same thing for ten years? The answer is no, because your gear created you when you needed it to, and as everything else changes around you you're going to have to change too.

Bearbeitet von Misfyre: 9/21/2015 3:03:27 PMTLDR: TTK is terrible because we can't use our Year One gear.
