So, let's start year 2 now.
First mission in. All my first year gear. Looking all cool and stuff.
Rock in, smush Cabal and Taken into small bits.
Pick up all new gear. Better than my old stuff. That's fine. I get that entirely!
"Hm, how about I use Necrochasm? After all, I got this from smushing Oryx's son."
*Max level is pre-2.0*
"Um.... ok. Mythoclast, yeah! I killed Atheon to get this! It took so much work!"
*Max level is pre-2.0*
"Oh. Right. Lord of Wolves it is. Seeing as I spent hours tearing at Skolas!"
*Max level is pre-2.0*
Looks like I'm stuck with this sidearm I just picked up rather than all the gear that I worked hours to get in endgame activities.
I'm aware you won't keep all exotic items - you want us to buy TTK so that we use your newer gear. However, many of us invested our time into creating Raid teams and the like in order to kill Atheon, Crota and Skolas (which were the three pve endgame goals of Destiny) and now, all those hours are for nothing as we progress. It surely isn't too late to consider making at least some of our genuinely hard work and time somewhat useful in TTK?
EDIT! (credit to Azreal80 and kgnast for making this point to me)
Some individuals have brought up a very fair point which makes me raise this question:
Will this be the case for TTK stuff? Will this all be useless? Will it be worth completing King's Fall in the long run, or will it also be eventually shelved and the collected items made redundant? If so... if all this new Exotic ans Raid kit has an eventual three-to-five-month sell-by date, people won't want to complete the endgame activities.
EDIT
for everyone saying "to have fun" here's an example of what I'm saying:
Imagine youve watched all of ... say, How I Met Your Mother and enjoyed it and youre on the pivotal episode. There's this HUGE buildup to the end reveal, all this time and investment in this show, and it's going to reveal everything you've put your time into (who the mother is). And the answer is awful (a cop out) and you feel you've wasted the time and effort. I'm comparing games to TV and books here. Seeing as they're all entertainment. I dunno...

2 AntwortenBearbeitet von Jarac Rassen: 8/22/2015 1:45:05 PMBecause Year One was the "beta" test-bed for Year 2. It didn’t really matter. We could have waited a year and gotten the completed, actual finished game for less. That's Bungievision for you.
-
It's like taking away a kids favorite toy because the toy is outdated and there is a new toy that may not be better but just new. There is a difference between having options and being forced to do something,Bungie needs to learn this difference because it's very important.

1 AntwortenI feel as a minimum the raid exotics should stay current.

Why do you complete any video game ever?

Got a little more to add and a great video. This is already blowing up these forums and the Destiny subreditt. Video is at the bottom. It's blowing up again folks. This "new" exotic upgrade program sure sounds familiar. Taken King exotic upgade: Find a old exotic, go to the tower vendor (blueprint kiosk), pay large sum of currency (150 marks) and get a higher damage UN-Leveled version of that exotic. .....that's now painted black and may have slightly different perks Dark Below exotic upgade: Find a old exotic, go to tower vedor (Xur on weekend), pay large sum of currency (7000 glim and 1 shard), and get a higher damage UN-Leveled version of that exotic Hmmmmmm. Let's see what Bungie had to say about that last year after players hated it:
Bungie Weekly Update - 12/04/2014 by DeeJ “The last thing we wanted was for you to look at your favorite gun or helmet and decide that it had become obsolete. I can tolerate having to leave some legendaries behind. It's a bummer, but I guess this is how we progress in the game. Same as trading greens for blues and blues for purples. But making us leave behind exotics? Our signature pieces of gear that can be incredibly hard to earn? WTF BUNGIE?!

Try looking at it this way: TTK is Level 2 of a shootemup. All your weapons you gained in Level 1 are not powerful enough as you progress thru Level 2 - so you get new power-ups (new weapons new armour) etc. Also would you be content to run around with your Fate Bringer or Ice Breaker for the next (alleged) 10 years of Destiny? I appreciate TTK and Destiny as a whole has many many flaws and miscommunications and complete mismanagement - but I and most people here enjoy playing the Game and can see its potential. I am gutted I am losing my weapons and armour some I only just got too, but, if TTK brings in some more good weapons and armour then I will have just as much fun getting and playing with them. And so on for Year 3 and Year 4....

1 AntwortenI totally agree with your post. US collectors just got screwed. I feel that all exotics should come forward with us. The time spent getting these and now it's left behind. Very upset that bungie is making this decision. 800 hours for my first gjallarhorn drop. Wtf...

To put it simply, to have fun and to have fun. The long answer is to make the game collectively better because we are beta testers. Now, the game is getting a huge face lift thanks to us playing in year one and giving feedback. In playing the game, we've received extensive knowledge on what weapons are useful and which aren't, how both raid mechanics work, some exotics that will carry over, time from not having to grind over the original story and upgrading subclasses and learning how Destiny actually works, PvP strategies and weapons that are effective in it that won't be sold anymore (i.e. Three Little Words, LDR 5001, The Devil You Don't, Her Supremacy) and a host of other things. The point is, if you value something other than your fatebringer, you would have valued your time as a year one player.

3 AntwortenAfter playing year one, I've recognized that Destiny is a Pay-to-Play game. Each DLC makes old gear obsolete, essentially forcing players to buy the DLC - which wouldn't be a problem...but 3 DLCs in a year? Totaling $80? That shit is ridiculous. If I'm gonna have to essentially spend all my time re-leveling all my gear or getting new gear every time they release a DLC, then I'm better off waiting until they are done making DLC, and buying the game as a giant bundle. (This will also be incredibly cheaper)

22 AntwortenBearbeitet von TheArtist: 8/22/2015 7:48:45 PMWhy do you play ANY GAME?? if the answer to that question is ANYTHING other than either: 1. Becuse I have fun playing it.....or 2. Because it is my job and I get PAID to do it..... You are lost. ...and the amount of emotional energy you are wasting over things that aren't even REAL just punctuates how lost you are. Bungie could obsolete EVERYTHING from Year One...and I"d still play. Because the act of playing this game is enjoyable. I don't play it just because it gives me some interesting little pixels that I can pretend represent real things.

3 AntwortenBearbeitet von Diznit: 8/22/2015 8:09:00 PMI'm curious. Does anyone on these forums who is aggrieved that they can't take their year 1 gear forward also play Call of Duty? I'm asking because when November comes around & the new instalment is released all your gear and perks are wiped & you start from scratch. Are you also annoyed about that? I'm not having a dig at anyone or any group I'm just interested to know if people have a different opinion of the COD system, because it seems kind of the same thing to me.
-
Yeah this is the feeling I have now. No need to continue the grind for gear it'd all useless as of the 15th of September. I also get the vibe that its going to be the same when the next dlc comes out. Nothing you got in the TTK will be good and the work you did meant nothing. Don't get me wrong love destiny, has a ton of potential for greatness. But all I feel we have been getting is is mediocre at best.

King's Fall it will probably be worth it. I got a lot of mileage out of my VoC and Fatebringer. But whatever the HoW of year 2 ends up being, you can probably skip and not worry about it too much
-
Agree! It's not worth the grind.

When the sequel's out next year, I'm sure most will be asking what the point of the last 2 years was! :D
