Edit: ok community, with the article and video from gameinformer i am becoming even more hyped and hopefuk for the taken king.
Cutscenes, more interactions with characters, dinklebot being replaced by nolan north (we need a new name, nolanbot?)
And, hopefully according to the article, a much more story driven way to play the game.
Firstly, day 1 beta ghost edition player and shield of heroes bearer. I love this game and want it to succeed (fanboy status out of the way)
The main problem with Destiny isn't necessarily the story; it's there, clear as day.
The problem is we don't care about the story and it's told far too vaguely and grimoire doesn't really supplement it properly.
We have 0 connection to the Traveler, Stranger, Speaker or even the people of the city we protect. The most character involvement we get is the Ghost and the Queen and there isn't much there (except the Queen's booty).
My point is, with TTK, we need more than 'Oryx is coming for vengeance and he's being a dick to the Cabal- that annoying race u hate'
We need to have actual story driven cinematics that communicate to us that Oryx is a huge douche and we need to get emotionally driven to kill this guy rather than: 'go kill him cuz game, pew pew'.
Thoughts, Guardians?
Please keep it civil, respectful and thoughtful.
Edit: some great hate here from users:
Hes behind 2.0 nerf
Hes behind TTK bundles and UK pricing
He took all the redbull and got wings
Edit: ok so there will be cutscenes, but the content needs to bring out the feels and not just be 'oryx brooding, glowy hand'
Edit: ok so theres a good amount of guardians that feel self-defense is enough and thats fine, but some of us need more. We went to kill the Vex in self defense, but did we rly care while we did it? Or was it just 'lol! Pew pew, o... game over?'
Edit: 8/4/15 new gameinformer TTK article and video. GO GO GO!
Edit: ok, a lot of guardians r saying "we killed his son/ hes a bad guy / hes coming for us - isnt that enough??"
The answer is NO guardians. I understand full well the premise of the story in TTK , but is there a reason to rly care about whats going on?
If theres no emotion behind what we're doing then TTK will just be the same vague, stale mission based fighting that we've been doing for a year now. Its time for the game to take a step up and be more than "go here, pew pew, loot" and actually get us involved in this universe.

3 AntwortenThey should let Oryx kill Cayde, Ikora, and Zavala.
-
He's put for vengeance, and we have to defend ourself in a war with his forces. Eventually raiding his flagship and killing him. Obviously it's gonna be more in-depth than that, but it's enough for me mate.
-
I don't think the story is as much about us hating him but about him hating us and hunting us down this time. The story should be about bringing the fight to the guardians. Maybe an attack on the tower or the reef would suffice.
-
Oryx could kill everyone in the tower and we all still would probs thank him cause we have all wanted to kill them all at some point or another because shit items, rolls, decryptions, and story.
-
2 AntwortenHe has control of the RNG Machine.
-
2 AntwortenHis son was responsible for that pathetic excuse of a raid AND he shot my dog.
-
7 AntwortenI'm not a douche
-
2 AntwortenOryx will steal our great purple ball and return rahool back to day one rahool.
-
5 AntwortenJust have oryx use thorn and shotguns against us

7 AntwortenBearbeitet von Dredgen Lore: 8/2/2015 9:30:36 PMI had the idea that TTK would begin immediately after completing the main story missions. You would witness your guardian be hailed as a hero, dare I say a legend even. You would be ushered from the tower down to the last city. Where the people welcome you home with an extravagant parade. After your respective vanguard mentor explains that the vanguard itself owes you a great debt for your bravery, they grant you leave from the war, a chance to rest and appreciate everything you've fought so desperately for. With that your guardian is lead to a charming home, you are prompted to enter, and upon doing so you are asked if you would like to re-edit your guardians apperance. You are then tasked with creating a partner, of the race and gender of your choosing. With that the story cuts to a year later. Your guardian awakes with a start at the prompting of your partner. After mentioning suspicious noises you are tasked with investigating. You proceed down the hallway away from your bedroom. As you get closer to a door left a jar, you see that there is an eerie green light emanating from the crack. A small cry is heard and your guardian charges into the room. Adorned like a nursery, the room is occupied by a monster. The immense creature has massive black wings folded in, he stands hunched over, yet whips around to face you as your guardian enters. With a terrified cry, a small form is swept out of the crib by the monster. The terrible eyes locked on your legend. Supercharged with the fate of your kin, your guardian is prompted to attack the behemoth with all your light. The attack is massive, and the creature burns brightly with your energy before it explodes, the force of the explosion rips the house apart and your guardian blacks out...with the horrible sound of that monster laughing into the void.

2 AntwortenA cutscene of Oryx saying "Zelda sucks" would be suffice.

2 AntwortenHe made all year one gear useless, is that enough?

1 AntwortenIt's like that "controversial" game Hatred. It's hard to feel bad for the people you kill, because they're just pixels, no back story. Story is what causes you to feel emotion for a certain character, and since Destiny has no story, you will find yourself not giving a shit about any of the characters.
-
6 AntwortenSimple- Oryx kidnaps ghost. Works because Dinklage is done, and the ghost is used for pointless tasks. Imagine how much more fun and exploration we would have if we didn't wait to have him unlock every door and had to find a way around? The ghost also is our only guaranteed companion, and we would want to rescue him.

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von Toketotem: 8/3/2015 11:00:23 PMHe is here for no reason other than to hunt us down. That's a pretty good reason to hate him in my book. Edit: You want story, and drama, and emotion? Go read some books, or watch some films. I just wanna shoot and loot tyvm.

1 Antwortenwhat if he -blam!-ed the queen and I wanted to first?

1 AntwortenI like the way you think, guy. I'd say you think we need some more visual examples, things we've seen oryx/his hive army do first hand. Flaming city's, hive dragging helpless guardians into some dark pit for who knows what, a Knight sticking its sword through a woman's stomach who's reaching out for her child and telling her to run. Things like that. The emotional part of the story is up to us in this instance. The story's of other games do a good job of showing us things like these to get us heavily invested in the result of the end confrontation and really wanting it to be one way instead of another(the bad guy dying in a horrible way). Like in far cry 4 when you see pagan min have these people killed in their homes and you immediately go after him. We're left to imagine those situations ourselves and imagination isn't as moving as seeing something unfold for reals. Food for thought

4 AntwortenWhat if he killed our ghost?
-
1 AntwortenIf someone killed my kid I'd be super pissed too. Then I'd overcharge them for the chance to stop my revenge. That'd really show them.
-
1 AntwortenOsiris told us to destroy his shrines. Now we destroy him. Osiris > Traveller
-
The whole reason for oryx is that we killed his son so he hates us. Lol
-
1 AntwortenWe have no connection to the people we protect because we weren't built to. We are war machines forged by the light of the traveler. Our goal is to defeat the darkness and protect what is left of humanity. A giant ass ship is headed towards us carrying one of the darkest beings we know of. That's a damn good reason for me to care.
-
3 AntwortenI'm hoping their story team hires will flesh out some of the mysteries and motivations. That said, not every game developer has the inclination to craft the atmospherics that bring a virtual world its depth.

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von RodmunchPHD: 8/4/2015 12:32:44 PMI would really like to see a cinematic where either a guardian we have a connection with is turned into a taken or oryx captures us and tries to make us into a taken. I think it would be interesting to see oryx go against us and the alien races to show he truly is the darkness we all fear.
