I'm gonna start off by warning that this is going to be long, and it's going to be pretty political. So if that bores you or angers you easily, you may want to redirect now. I'm also going to be doing a lot of speculating and jumping to conclusions, so be prepared for statements that may not necessarily hold entire truths.
Moving on.
Future war cult. Epitome of Capitalism. Ill-gotten gains. War profiteering. To the more perspective, America (U.S.A). War needs guns for people to fight with. FWC makes em and sells em. Their faction wins and makes progress? They make more money and more guns. Their faction loses and needs help? They make more money and more guns. All while doing very little to fight their own fight. Really aspiring to join a group that hinges it's existance and future on the prospect of violence.
Dead Orbit. Nihilism. Bleak hopeless abandon. Apathetic existance. Uncaring unsympathetic preservation. Fear mongering and propoganda. All is lost, cash out now. Protect yourself and only yourself. Doom is coming and we can't stop it, but the flame that burns twice as long burns half as bright. In a collapsing world where the light of the traveller and the vigilance of the guardians are all that stop humanity from being torn asunder, this faction is a poison. A toxin. A virus.
New Monarchy. All for one and one for all. Fight for the royalty. Praise the New Monarchy. Loyalty is rewarded. Disobediance is punished. Absolutes and certainty. Ego and pride. In a world where every life holds meaning because every life is few and sacred, the last thing anyone needs is leadership of any kind, let alone such a broken fragmented abomination reflective of the old world.
Cult of Osiris. Elitism as pure as can be. Unappologetic prestige. Victory at any cost. Loss is unacceptable. Perfection isn't strived for, it's dominated. In a time when the powerful are invaluable, a cult that seperates itself from the whole to prop up the mighty as gods, is a cult that damns the weak and the future to a pittied existance of death wrought by narcissism. When great guardians are lost to greed and lust, such as Dredgen Yor, the failings of history fall on deaf ears.
The Vanguard hold noble cause but stunt their progress with constant plotting.
The Crucible breeds strong guardians but spits them out eager and ready into a world that demands caution and rewards patience.
The Iron Banner galvanizes guardians to the cause of power, rewards them for percervierance, and tests their medel, to forge wills of Iron. But is again plagued by the pride of victory gone sour by gloating and bragging. Gaudy garb dawned in Gold and White to glorify the filth of war and the struggle of growth. A pleasent sentiment sullied by it's notion.
There is no place for honor. No place for humility. No place for hope. No place for charity. No place for community and society. No place for struggle or failure. No place for acceptance. Extremes of every point of the spectrum, black and white, unrelenting convictions of immovable ideals.
The guardians of the Last City need a grey.
They need a symbol of Pride but not vanity.
Of victory but not of the bold.
Of achievement but not of prestige.
Of work but not of skill.
Of solidarity but not the few.
Of power but not of invincibility.
Of Vigilance but not of duty.
Of character but not of ego.
Of Flag. Fire of purpose, in the face of vulnerability
Of Steel. Will of Iron; Strength of Carbon
Of the Pillars. Weight of many; Supported by few
I propose a new faction more befitting of a race fighting tooth and nail for it's survival.
I propose the Flags of steel pillars.
No one flag can carry your meaning. Our meaning is many. Our flags are you. We are the pillars of existance. We carry the burden of survival, but we will not be crushed by any weight.

2 AntwortenI think you're way off. Dead Orbit are not apathetic. They see that all the eggs have been in one basket too long, and out of necessity more baskets must be sought. This, especially since alien eggs have come around to nearly destroy the basket we all call home. Future War Cult are not capitalists, they're dire pragmatists. They don't merely anticipate inevitable conflict, they have seen the future and know for certain it is coming. New Monarchy have the least compelling stake in all of this, being inordinately concerned with control structures and rule.

Wow. Someone actually went through all the trouble to unlike/unfavorite this post. I'm impressed.

1 AntwortenNice post.

1 AntwortenI am appreciative of your effort. However, I am not a fan of your idea. Why does there have to be a faction of grey? No allegiance is Vanguard or Crucible. Those are the Guardians that don't believe in any actual faction. To my knowledge, if you count Vanguard and Crucible as factions, you can be factionless. Your Rep goes somewhere. The base Vanguard faction seems to represent what you want. Ultimate allegiance to none but yourself, perseverance above all, with the only ideal being to fight the darkness. If you're playing the game, you're at least doing that much. Am I missing something?

1 AntwortenI thought that Dead Orbit was all about expanding out to create more colonies and not stay strictly on Earth incase Earth gets overran or the traveler takes off and leaves us? I have heard it is possible that the war minds focused all solar system defense weapons fire onto the Traveler when it was about to run away and abandon Earth to the darkness and that is what damaged the traveler and why it had to expel all of it's light to push back the darkness. Then it would make sense that the traveler would attempt repairs and then leave immediately.

23 AntwortenYou may have created my single least favorite idea on the forum, but you did it in paragraphs with headings. That's miles above so many others. You're political evaluations are not very accurate, and your suggestion of what is needed in a new faction sounds communist. I am definitely not a fan, even though I don't like the philosophies of any of the existing factions either. New Monarchy: I don't believe in being subjects. Liberty for all, thanks. Dead Orbit: wants to abandon our home and the traveller who gave us so much. I'd rather die here (again) FWC: all of life is about struggle, but it should be our struggle to rise above it not to embrace it. That said, I rank up with all the factions on my characters. I do New Monarchy first. Let them organize things, then I'll overthrow the tyrant.

FWC sucks.

Wow...amen brother

I appreciate the feedback, negative as some of it may be. However I warned some of it would end up as simple personal perspective, and as many of you noticed, that did come through. That being said, I hold firm to my perspective. I may have took some factual liberties here and there and made dire assumptions, but I feel the tone of all of my analysis were very much in line with the ideals refelected in each faction.

Bearbeitet von Commander B_rice: 7/29/2015 2:05:04 PMYour summary of the factions aren't accurate. especially FWC. FWC is creating an army for the coming darkness. Their goal is to fight the pending evil head on and have strong/brave enough members to face it full throttle. They dabbled in seeing the future with some mysterious machine and the test subjects were never the same. Dead Orbit is looking for another place to call home and colonize a new habitable solar system, they believe the darkness will engulf our current system no matter what. NM in my opinion probably seems to be the most shady and underhanded, but that's just my opinion. They come across as keeping the city in line and supporting the current status quo and making sure the vanguard is doing what they are supposed to being doing and no one is abusing power. They also want to re-create the golden age and try to build society as it once was. I appreciate the post though, good to see something different and others opinions on the factions. I wish there were more to them in the game though. More history, weapons, ships, lore, etc.

3 AntwortenBearbeitet von Ereaser: 7/29/2015 12:51:36 PMAs far as I know FWC doesn't manufacture weapons. You could have put in some stuff about using people's minds, which turn them crazy, to be able to see the future. Or about NM how they try to get back what is long lost.

Very interesting statement, born from personal viewpoint... I like this!! It's a very pessimistic summary of specific factions/vendors in the game, and I don't think that comes across in the game... But not a lot does to be honest! I would prefer that this was the case, it would show some recognition of the darkness, and give a sense of impact to the tower community!

I support FWC's ideals but damn, they are ugly.

1 AntwortenBump because I was typing for like an hour and at least one person should see this. lol

You're catching on man. Soon you'll see that raids are the only good part of this game and you'll look back at e3 and say "where the hell is all this stuff". Activision took it away and made the game sub par.
