Do you happen to know if it will drop for a higher level player or do I need to start a character over to get the white (common) engrams drop. Because unless I'm playing a different game than anyone else, white engrams don't drop for my level 34 character.

They drop regardless of level

Hey beemer, The Husk of the Pit does not drop from rare engrams. You can obtain it by kill Blades of Crota at the first part of the Firt of Crota mission. Also, it will drop like a raid drop, not an engram. Hope this helped.
