New player looking for guidance (ps4)
Hey everyone! I just got into destiny and am looking to make friends with some of the more experienced players in order to learn how light levels work and where to get better gear. Thank you all for your time!

The vandal at the back of the forgotten shore behind the rusty boats near the cliff. He drops legendary weapon engrams if u kill him with only Melees. It's like one in 10 kills, but don't die or you won't get the engram. It's a secret not many people know about.

Lot of good players willing to help out there. Just don't beg for help and try to find some good mentors in the game. If you get lucky and find one sooner rather than later, it should greatly enhance your experience.

The 10 step process for playing Destiny right now. 1. Level Up. 2. Once you get to Level 20 do many, many bounties. 3. Acquire a Light in The Dark quest from Xander 4. Complete the quest. 5. Acquire the Thorn 6. Level up Thorn by doing bounties 7. Use Thorn in PVP 8. Profit, You win. 9. Brag about your skills and weapon isn't OP and you are just good 10. Cry in these Forums when the update drops

Talk to "experienced" players on the forums for hints, advice etc, only play with new players in the game, otherwise you'll get rushed through a lot of events and raids, not finding things for yourself. Believe me, exploring the raids, discovering things for yourself and taking your time is one of the better parts of the game, don't ever get rushed.

[b]Light Levels and Gear. [/b]You can research on this forum and on the internet as to how light levels work. In short, it's based on the light level value of the armor that you're wearing. The better the gear, the higher the light value. Your level is determined by adding up the light values of the individual armor pieces. For example, to be level 32, you have to a total light value of 144 which can be achieved with 4 four pieces of armor with a light value of 36 each. [b]Basic Legendary Gear.[/b] You can obtain a basic set of legendary gear from the class Vanguard rep, the Crucible Handler and from the faction reps by ranking up your reputation with each and by exchanging Vanguard or crucible marks. Legendary and Exotic gear can also drop in higher level activities like strikes and raids as well as in crucible. Legendary gear obtained from raids often has raid-specific perks that help with that raid. Legendary gear from these sources will get you to Level 32. You'll need a combination of House of Judgment gear, ascended legendary gear and fully levelled exotic gear to get from Level 32 to Level 34. [b]Exotic Gear. [/b] Exotic gear can drop in higher level activities. You can also accumulate exotic gear by buying it from Xur each week. You'll also need to buy a exotic shard from Xur to complete the final upgrade for each piece of exotic gear. You can level new Exotic Gear to a light value of 42. So if you have 3 pieces of legendary gear with a light value of 36 and one piece of fully levelled exotic gear, you'll be Level 32.5. [b]PoE and Ascended Legendary Gear.[/b] To get beyond Level 32 you'll have to get gear with a light value 42 from the House of Judgment by completing Prison of Elders at Level 32 or higher, by levelling up Exotic gear obtained after HoW, and/or by ascending older Exotic gear and other legendary gear using Etheric Light. Etheric Light is obtained from Prison of Elders Level 34 and 35, can drop in Nightfall Strikes and can be obtain through Iron Banner by reaching Rank 3 and Rank 5. To do all of this as quickly as possible, after you have completed the story, regularly complete the daily and weekly activities, strike playlists and crucible playlists while also using bounties and collecting glimmer and upgrade materials.

I suggest not FWC) you do this by buying their class items and wearing them. There is no use in leveling up vanguard or crucible. Edit: If you ever need help with anything add me my PSN is the same as my name.
