I was walking through Wal-Mart yesterday and happened to see a family, half of which were on their phones. There was a small child with his own phone and another with her own. They both looked about 7-8 and I was in awe as I am 14 and have to wait until my birthday (Aug 19) to get one. Should kids under 13 own a phone?

NO! Not until they are old enough to pay for their own phone and show some responsibility.

I say yes because I had a phone at a very young age as well
-
It depends on the child

2 AntwortenDepends completely on circumstances really. My eldest is coming on 11 and was diagnosed with ASD a few years back. Due to the ASD he isn't the best at communicating how he feels and is prone to becoming easily upset/anxious. This is often made worse if he's in a strange situation or away from home as he won't tend to speak up if somethings upsetting him. As he's not biologically mine he often needs to go and stay with his dad who has basically zero understanding of his needs. Obviously that can be quite difficult for him so he has a phone so that he has a means of at least letting us know how things are going when he's away etc. If it weren't for his particular circumstances I'm not sure we would've got him a phone though.

If there going out with no one to watch them yes however I'm 13 so you can take my answer with a grain of salt

My little brother who's 10 got a laptop... I still ain't got one?

I wasn't allowed my first phone until I was 17. I thank my parents for that. I did nlt need a cell phone at 13, then again this current generation of kiddies sucks...
-
What's worse is parents who give their phones/kindle/ipad to their very young children. It's basically an electronic babysitter for lazy parents. Yea, just let your developing toddler stare at this bright screen for hours on end. Sounds like a good idea...

Same with me, dude.

Well senior school starts when you're 11. I know they have 'grades' in America which I don't really understand but kids need a phone when to go to high school. You don't want to be the weird one with no phone and really christian parents
-
9 AntwortenWhen u get to 7th grade its necessary as you become independent as an individual. You use your phone as a mean of communication not to play with CoC and other shitty mobile games.

12> should have phones for security reasons. Not iPhones though.
-
I got my phone last Christmas. I'm 16 now and the funny thing is i didn't even want it. It honestly bugs me to see 10 year olds with iPhones and shit
-
My first phone was after I graduated highschool and I had to pay for it myself (I was 16, driving, and needed a phone). My family didn't think I needed one, I had "friend's phones I could use" instead. That shit is embarrassing when you're in highschool at a tournament for your sport and be like "hey, game's over, could I use your phone to call my mom to come get me?" Then I have to sit outside for an extra hour while everyone else is gone and I'm still waiting on my parents to come get me.

2 AntwortenIf you can teach them how to control their usage then go straight ahead
who am I kidding, that's impossible
-
3 AntwortenIt depends, i got one around 10 because i would have workouts in the morning where my mom wouldnt stay with me, so i needed one to keep in touch
-
Yes. Just not smart phones

I didn't get a phone back in the day until I was 16, which phones were still flip phones non colored screens but I got it once I started driving to be in contact with whoever for emergency purposes. My sister had got one when she was like 10. I think phones that young should be limited for just calling emergency contacts and that be it. My sister blew data through the roof though costing my dad $100s a month (stupid on his part for continuing to let to happen) nonetheless this day and age kids will have phones, but they don't need to have free reign of them to have their nose buried in all the social media shit 24/7 and sending dïck picks at 10!

I got mine at the start of high school
-
I got a phone around 12. Definitely not anywhere before 11 though

I had my first proper phone when I was 11. The difference is probably that I didn't have internet and such on it, so the only uses I had for it was calling or texting my parents if I needed to, or rarely texting a friend with my low amount of available texts. Other than that, I could listen to music on it. Nowadays the internet is very easy to access on phones and the kids spend their day with their eyes glued to the screens on their social media and stuff.
-
Yes they should, anyone below the age of 12 is too young in my opinion.

Well, I'm 14 and I have an S5 BUT that's only because I'm an honor roll student a JV football team captain and a starter.... so yeah but I hate when I see 5th graders walking around with IPhones
