It's funny cause I look at games and look toward to graphics and cut scenes, But I remember when I was younger where I was the kid angrily smashing the skip button cause I didn't give a crap about the story? I just wanted to play the game and I was only allowed to play for 30 minutes a week so they wasted that precious time. Feel free to share your child hood gaming memories.
ps destiny would have been the greatest game for me as a kid because of the lack of cut scenes haha
Edit: it seems like games these days focus way to much on graphics now and not the actual game play which is leading to a lot of broken repetitive games. Not only that but new games come out less often because of this. I'm tired of broken games. Remember when there were no updates or patches? Developers had to get it right the first time. They were well tested back then.

2 AntwortenBearbeitet von I-Mivan-I: 6/10/2015 6:02:53 PMI remember the first time I played Pokemon Red, then Blue and then Yellow. And the countless cable-battles with my school mates. Or the first PS1 games like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Time Crisis, Digimon World, Final Fantasy VI-VII-VIII-IX...all masterpieces of gaming and entertainment, and I still have them! Edit: oh and don't forget the magical blow that could wipe away any problem of any cartridge or disc lol

Mario party seven. My first video game

Maybe this shouldn't be tagged Destiny.

I also disagree with the broken game statement. With how complex games are nowadays, they're bound to have glitches but the thought that older games were less broken? Well, just check the tube man. Glitches and bugs are present in every game. Multiplayer glitches are something else though, it is a much more complex issue since it affects competitive play and all that. Single player glitches are mostly for shits and giggles like Missingno in Pokemon. The only difference is that nowadays glitches and bugs are more heavily scrutinized and easily found thanks to the Internet. Back then, stuff like going through walls in Tomb Raider, infinite throws in Street Fighter, Missingno in Pokemon were actually considered secrets.

2 AntwortenOregon Trail in the school computer labs when it was raining at recess. You had to check out the floppy from the librarian and if it came back "scratched" it was your butt. We used to enter each other's names and laugh like idiots when that kid died of dysentery. Always shot like 200 animals even though you could only carry 100 lbs back to the wagon.

I remember being worried I wouldn't be a good dad because my kids kept dying on oregon trail. Happily my kids are still alive and I'm a much better shot with a .22

Bearbeitet von Kweh: 6/10/2015 6:43:53 PMGraphics are expected to get better over time. It's a big part of immersion. Sure it isn't EVERYTHING, but it's silly to suggest they shouldn't matter (not saying you are suggesting this). They do. We all love well made beautiful games. Games were pretty darn broken when I was a kid as well (I was born in 1980). They didn't get fixes for them either. I've played games on every system that has ever been made to this day. Ya, games are broken more often then not in today's days, BUT it's a deadline and publisher problem for the most part. There are certainly lazy cash grabbing devs. Point being, games have always had issues, they get fixed more then they ever have. Graphics do matter but they are not everything. My fondest memories of gaming were Arcades, and the tournaments involved at them. Back when that was my age groups version of competitive gaming in the days internet didn't exist.

Bearbeitet von rockhorsey: 6/10/2015 7:09:41 PMFinal Fantasy 7. A game on 3 discs. I thought at the time that this game must be huge. Put over 120 hours into that game trying to breed a Gold Chocobo and levelling up Materia - similarities there with the grinding that is synonymous with Destiny. Edited to add Lemmings. Lost count of the amount of times I wanted to throw the controller at the tv when I failed by 1 measly little green Lemming to clear a level? But kept on trying because it was so addictive.

1 AntwortenFurthest back I can remember is playing Twisted Metal and Crash Bandicoot...those were the youngin days. I loved using the clown ice cream truck character, can't remember his name though.

Super Mario was my first game on the Nintendo. It took some training to not jerk the controller every time I wanted him to jump. The console sure took a beating though and it still works.
-
Not my earliest video game memory but it's a good one, TWISTED METAL!

Destiny was (and still is) a fun game

For me it was mostly mario 64, pokemon and twisted metal. Back when gaming was still an art form and not the mass produced rushed mess it has become.

There's others before this but my favorite is Sonic adventure 2 on my GameCube. I still love that game to this day.
