Okay.
It's official, we aren't getting a new Raid, but a new Mode...whatever that means.
We always assumed that The Arena would be a Horde Mode, so that's not a major surprise + the May 19th date we knew about also got confirmed, along with the 3 new Story Missions.
Okay, with me so far?
The biggest problem with this announcement is that it literally offers NOTHING to the Raid players.
With the severe lack of replayable content in this game, HoW offers nothing but a massive blow to any PvE Raiders.
PvP thrives on each match being unique due to human-controlled players. PvP players tend to like the glory of just using the combat system. Great. Nothing needed for them. They don't need much new to keep those players coming back.
PvE thrives on groupwork against predetermined programming. PvE players tend to like teamwork and completing puzzle challenges. This always needs something fresh. A new Strike is welcome, but to the people whom love to Raid and work with a team...HoW gives them no reason to come back.
So that's the real problem. I - a raider - have no reason to play Destiny anymore. And that's a shame.
Edit: Go back and reread my post before you rush to Bungie's defense. Not once did I say that this DLC doesn't include new content. Not once did I rain on anyone pumped for the new mode. I am exclusively talking about the awesome group of people whom organize and go on raids. We have nothing to bring us back - and while everyone else gets shiny new stuff within the Expansion Pass, we would have to pay outside of the Expansion Pass to get new content.
Edit: "Replayable content" and "replayability" are two different concepts. Know the difference before you try to defend one...

Bearbeitet von zortcommander: 5/10/2015 2:35:12 AMYou know. I didn't want to agree, but I have to join the club. It feels like a massive step back for them. They threw the hopscotch stone far in the vanilla Raid, tripped on the stone in Dark Below, and just made the stone go back a few spaces from the trip. The replay ability may be low on this. I thought the modifiers would change it up, but most seem so niche, they would not be terribly beneficial or painful to our survival. They may just be an annoyance. The only threat I truly see is Lightswitch Hive room. It's just five strikes without a "story" for each. Edit: Dear lord, I just rambled on and on about nothing of importance

I agree 150% Bungie took a major step backward
-
I bet in after 2 weeks of PoE people will get bored.
-
1 AntwortenI'm with you, Destiny is all about 6 man online coop thats why I bought the Game.

Bearbeitet von quicklight: 5/5/2015 11:50:57 PMIf you really like team work and solving puzzles, then why not look forward to the constantly evolving arena of PoE of which we don't really know anything other than what Bungie has stated in teasers thus far. You might be happy with the reveal tomorrow. To be honest, though, you sound more like you're trying to be a snowflake. edit: holy necrobump. My bad, not sure why I started reading this. Just the post is almost a month old.

Agreed. Raids are what keep me and several of my friends playing, but they are getting old real fast. I won't hold out until September for a new raid to drop and I suspect many others won't either. PVP in Destiny is horrible and that's certainly not going to keep the masses around. Bungie is going to feel the sting on this one as I see a good amount of people abandoning the game for something else -- unless the new raid drops sooner than Comet (would probably have to be no later than July 1st to keep folks interested).

I am also a raider and I think if HoW is boring I'm done with destiny
-
3 AntwortenThe Arena practically is a raid. It will have its own gear set that will be raid quality. Only difference is that their will be modifiers and that it is 3 man instead of 6. Everyone needs to get over themselves and stop bitching.

Bearbeitet von Project Zero: 4/14/2015 12:45:30 PMI gradually found myself playing Destiny less and less as time progressed. All I needed was an excuse to finally quit this game, and now I have it. Thank you Dumbjie.

1 AntwortenGreat post. It is sometimes hard to remember that the way you enjoy the game is different than how I enjoy the game. Maybe something in HoW will scratch your itch, maybe not till later.
-
6 AntwortenReally u enjoyed that crota raid that much ?? God I was bored of it after 2 weeks of hard mode
-
As long as it actually requires teamwork, I'm all ears. It's great getting to talk and meet new people.
-
2 AntwortenI get your point, but we can't be sure exactly what the Arena is until Bungie releases more info. It may very well have puzzles to solve and other challenges. All we can do is wait my friend.
-
4 AntwortenI'm kind of disappointed like yourself. This new raid down the road better not be part of the comet and, imo, should be free. And before I get that I'm entitled crap I'm thinking about this from a business standpoint. There's going to be a lull between may and September. After people already dropped money on the dlc and you're going to attempt to get them to do the same with the comet it only makes sense to give something for free. Will draw your consumers to buy assuming this free stuff may become a thing.

Lol to everyone who said, "you don't know it's going to be a horde mode!"
-
2 AntwortenI kind of agree and kind of disagree. If they had made the arena 6 player and more difficult to match that, it might have been a bit closer to satisfying the raider in me. A fight a with six people is going to require more coordination than with three. On the other hand, a horde mode could be awesome and better than a raid. It could have way more replay value if the waves change or there are modifiers. We will have to wait and see. As much as raids are my favorite activity in the game, I have decided to hold off on being disappointed until I see what HOW actually brings.
-
If the Arena is match made I just might quit. That is all I am gunna say, it will probably be more fun than a raid if we still have to make our own 6 man teams... If not this will just be hideous.
-
Bearbeitet von lumina: 4/16/2015 7:20:51 PMThen go play something else. When the new raid comes, you can decide if you want to start playing again, or not... I'll never understand why people think they need to play just one game with no breaks. Are you afraid that the game will dissappear if you stop playing for a few months?

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von Willie Killigan: 4/15/2015 10:43:10 AMNot sure if you thought about splitting your raid team in 2? lol Your still using team mechanics, just your team is smaller. Swap out different members to keep things interesting. Also far as I'm concerned raiders have 2 raids, while non-raiders and non-pvp players have NOTHING. This allows the majority of Destiny players to enjoy something other than bounties and strikes.
-
2 AntwortenThe arena is supposed to be different every time you enter. Let's wait to see how exactly it works before jumping ship. The raids are the exact same thing over and over. Once you've developed your strategy it's all about making sure nobody -blam!-s up.
-
-
You still do have a reason to play. You'll get your precious raid eventually. I like to raid but it's not a deal breaker like it is for all of the self entitled whiners out there.

Bearbeitet von OurWildebeest: 4/16/2015 3:09:52 AMIf you think back on the early reviews of the game, the criticisms were something like: the story isn't deep enough, you get through the campaign too quickly, and then you're doing PvP and repetitive stuff. I think Bungie is trying to address that. There are a lot of players who'd just as soon not deal with joining a team, or if they must, only join teams via matchmaking. They may not be as hardcore, but they are more numerous. Every update can't cater to the smaller number of hardcore players (though some should and have).

4 AntwortenThe arena is PVE. Just because it sounds like a PVP it isn't. Cooperative and Competitive play are two totally different things. Don't blame Bungie because your school system failed to teach you reading comprehension. As far as crying about the raid, grow up! You will get a raid, but feel like they will charge you. Much like the arena you are jumping to conclusions on the raid as well. Pretty confident that the raid will be released like vault of glass was to bridge the gap between how and comet. You also can not comment on re-playability because again you have not even seen a reveal and once again are jumping to conclusions. Stop the knee jerk emotional reactions. Its a game you have to grow up a little or the world is going to chew you up and spit you out.
