Edit: Ignore the HTML links, I didn't mean to put them in there!
So, I am sitting in college right now. And there's this kid in my class, he's 18 and lacks any sort of imagination (Why he wants to make computer games is beyond me) But anyway, not the point.
Right now, he is submitting SOMEONE ELSE'S WORK and claiming it is his own.. He found a portfolio of a guy on-line(who works for disney), stole his 3D beauty renders and photo shopped off the watermarks and slightly changed the colours.
Do I rat this guy out? Do I do it in front of my class? Do I approach my lecturer silently?
It's not the first time he has done this: He has taken my work on 2 occasions also, and I let it slide because I genuinely feel sorry for him as me and one other guy are effectively carrying him thru this course.
He will get booted from the course if I rat on him.. Potentially questioning his future.. I'm 27, and would feel weird for 'telling' on someone.
Edit: I cannot bring myselt to snitch.. So at lunch I sat beside him, and pretty much said: Stealing shit and claming it as your own may fly in college. But in the real world, it will land you in court and you will be paying someone's mortgage for the rest of your life while you have a massively damaged reputation. I also told him that during our final project, if he is in my 'team' and if he tries stealing again, I will have him expelled. I was kinda a dick about it.. But, hopefully he learns from it..

Yeah don't rat him out... Talking to him directly is best. Him cheating doesn't really affect you so there is no point
-
You made the right choice.
-
He won't make it without skills of his own in the real world. Also, an anonymous email to the teacher with links for proof could accomplish what you want without implicating you as the rat.

1 AntwortenI would have just beat the shit out of him
-
Well, something said is something said. I would've ratted more than a mouse on roids
-
You did the right thing. You tried to make him learn a lesson without completely destroying his life.
-
You coward, he deserved to be expelled.

1 AntwortenDon't snitch on him, let him turn in that work and when he tries to get a job, he'll be fired cause he doesn't know what he's doing. Not only will he waste a lot of money from going to school, he'll be in a lot of dept and jobless.

Dont snitch.

Bearbeitet von WileEWolf: 3/11/2015 5:19:35 AM1) Personally I would lose my shit if someone stole my hard work; there is no sliding there; I would burn that person. 2) If I have some obligation to report something as plagiarism when I know about it, of course I will report them, Im not taking any risk whatsoever for some pos. 3) If I just happened to become aware of some cheating that has nothing to do with me, I will probably ignore it because its none of my business. I would leave it to the authority on the matter to sort that out. Knowing someone is like that however, I would tell them to get the fk off my team if ever it happens. If necessary I would discuss with the school that "I have no proof but reason to believe whatever and cold you please facilitate me to do the work on my own"
-
I guess your school doesn't use software to check the work. A lot of people in College just copy other peoples work, they couldn't get through without it. I've come to the conclusion over the years that teachers let it slide. Since if they didn't, they wouldn't have the job. Due to low enrollment.
-
You did the right thing from start to finish. I personally would've ratted him out though in front of the class. Embarrass him.
-
You should've just let him do whatever so he never learns his lesson. His future would be your revenge.
-
Challenge him to a 1v1 irl Kidding, just sign up for a presentation after him and present your "inspiration" and just present the work that he'd stolen from other people.
-
-Blam!- snitch. It's a word people use to get away with whatever they want. I've heard enough of that word. If something like that happens again, just #Yolo.

2 Antwortenrat him out. you won't do it, no balls
-
Your edit was alright but I doubt he will learn from it. People who are lowly enough to cheat have to be punished severely to even realize they did something wrong. I understand you don't want to snitch on him but it would probably save his life more if you did it. If he gets in trouble when he is older and doesn't have a chance to restart, then he will truly be screwed in life.
-
3 AntwortenThat was a better course of action then snitching. Bravo.
-
Guy needs to be punished for taking someone else's work. If there is one thing worse than a snitch it's stealing, regardless of how it is done.
-
What death said, emphasis on sending an anonymous email or note.
-
"Snitching" is bad if it's something stupid and insignificant. However, this guy is screwing with you and the guy he is stealing from. He's not doing the work or learning how to do it. You're doing HIM a disservice by not turning him in. He might be able to pull it together in the future, but not if he keeps up like this. You're also lowering the value of your own degree if this fool is running around with one. It's also just flat out unethical and says just as much about you as it does him. You're not helping him, yourself, or the guy he's stealing from. Do the right thing OP. It's not even that difficult. If you want to avoid an awkward instance then simply send an anonymous email to the professor.

2 AntwortenYour edit that you posted was the smartest way to do it.

1 AntwortenId rat him out and jerk off to the thought of him dying on the street as a hobo

Well played sir!
