Until a god undeniably appears from the heavens we will never know for sure. Science can't guarantee one doesn't exist and faith can't guarantee one does exist.

The minute you revise God down to a non-empirical entity, it literally becomes a futile concept to engage with and its de facto non-existence is the only epistemic regime under which you can actually operate. Now, claiming definitively the non-existence of God? Yeah, dumb. Probabilistically? No, clever.

It's sad, but the modern internet user really sees science and religion as nothing more than two different sports teams. There's no room for subtlety if you view things in such a basic way. Science has no word on the existence of God. This is not a failing on science's part, but a demonstration of its most important principles. Science only comments on what can be tested. A supernatural entity, [i]by definition[/i], is something that science won't address. Even if our science one day advances to the point that it can comment on what we today would see as supernatural, it will still do so in an objective way. Science is not there to make you feel good about yourself and your existence. The pop-science mysticism that gets peddled out by the likes of Tyson these days is hilarious, mainly because it's breeding a generation of unthinking zealots just as bad as their enemy. If you don't have the capability to understand science yourself, then you're no better than a theist who blindly follows what their preacher says. If you make the argument that scientists know more about what they're talking about than you and that therefore you trust them, you're making a fantastically hypocritical appeal to authority. The only "meaning" science can give to your life is hope that true meaning (such as a brute fact) [i]may one day[/i] be derived and understood from science. Whether or not that will retroactively make science a truly meaningful pursuit today is an argument for the philosophers.
