Ok Dads, we've reached a point of critical mass for the clan. The way Bungie designed it, there is no limit to how many people can be in a Group, but only 100 people can claim that Group as their Clan. What's the difference? You have to chose to set a Group as your Clan to wear that Clan's tag on your nameplate in-game.
Our Group has reached 165 members (current as of this post) and we reached our Bungie imposed limit of 100 Clan members sometime in December. I have theories, but I don't actually know why this limit exists. It is, however, the reason why Dads of Destiny became an alliance of smaller sub-clans to begin with and how NightsWatch was born. Liking the DoD philosophy, and wanting to be part of it, I created this sub-clan with a tilt toward the 3rd shifters and night owls. Nocturnal Guardians, if you will. The purpose, obviously, is to make it easy for us Dads to group up with other players for Raids, Strikes, Nightfalls, Weekly Heroics, Crucible, Patrols, or just dancing in the Tower. As long as you guys are able to do this, and you're having fun, then I consider this clan is a success.
But we have people who've joined our Group and wish to wear our Clan Tag into battle but cannot because of the aforementioned limit of 100. In an attempt to remedy this situation, phase one of my plan is to purge any players that joined the clan but are not active, in order to free up slots for those that are.
Figuring out how to do this has not been an easy task for me as I have no way of monitoring how often people play and don't really care to. Being a DoD clan, it is understood that family and work come first. Some people get more time for gaming than others. That being said, we do have some dead weight and it's not fair to the active members if someone is absently filling a clan slot. So the system I came up with puts the responsibility on you, the member, if you wish to stay. I figure that if you care enough about being in a clan, regardless of your play schedule, you're at least checking in to our forum as often as you can. So whenever necessary, I will create a "Purge" post (starting this weekend). All you have to do is reply to that post (not this one) with "keep me active" or something similar. I will leave the first post up for at least a week or so to give everyone a chance to see it because I understand we have jobs, families, reasons, blah blah, etc. (we're dads, not Hardcore Highschoolers! ...not anymore anyway). At the end anyone who hasn't replied will be PURGED! (insert ominous music here) Hopefully this will give us a few more slots. I'm just not sure how many because I know we have a lot of active members, many of which I haven't had the honor to team up with yet.
Phase 2 will begin after the first Purge when we see how many Group members remain who still wish to make NightsWatch their Clan. The Admins and I wish to accommodate everyone who wants this and so the plan at this point is to possibly create a DoD NightsWatch II (2, Deuce, Part Deux, we're not really sure yet...lol). More on that later.
If you're part of the Group, but don't care about the Clan-tag (i.e. you never set NightsWatch as your clan), you can safely ignore this post and the purge.
If you return to Destiny after a hiatus and find that you got purged from NightsWatch, you are always welcome to rejoin our Group.
I welcome any questions, comments, or suggestions.
Aim small, miss small! See you in orbit Guardians!

Good idea. Just joined and would love to set as clan.

Would appreciate acceptance into the NightsWatch clan when a spot becomes available or during the next purge. Clicked the "Set as clan" button. Thanks guardians!

1 AntwortenHave you considered the 2nd group name to be NiightsWatch with the two i's to denote the 2, just a thought, keeps the difference in the names quite minimal so it doesn't feel as separate. Since your purge I've played with a few more clanmates but have yet to play with the admins, you guys never seem to have a slot open in those raids of yours. Which has had me thinking that out of 100 clanmates I play on regular with about 5 to 6 which isn't a lot, and I'm really quite hesitant to just jump into other peoples games even though were clanmates when it's someone I've never played with. Perhaps you guys can set up certain times per week where we can try and get together and play with those members that we haven't played with yet so we're more familiar with each other. BTW just putting it out there, if anyone sees me playing solo or with open slots in the fireteam on any game type from patrol to crucible or whatever, jump on in, no invitation necessary, you're always welcome

1 AntwortenHow do we get on this 3rd shift clan so I may add the clan tag to my GT. Thanks.
-
1 AntwortenDid I miss the purge? I just joined a week ago. Set DOD Nightwatch as clan.
-
2 AntwortenBeing as I just joined the watch keep me active please lol but sounds like a fair solution to the situation. I'm on board with that.

1 AntwortenI checked clan membership and did not see my name, guess it does not matter where the purge list is since I figure I have been un-joined. I understand the change to accomodate those who want in and actively check compared to those who don't check the forums. XB1 does not have an easy search and match service and my PC is not in the same room as xb1.

Hi, I read the purge email but did not see the purge list. Must have missed it since I don't keep the PC in the same room as the xb1. It must have been a while since I don't check the forums much.

I think this is a great idea. I am part of that dead weight, unfortunately, and it is unfair that I take a slot from someone who could really benefit from this clan. I would love to follow as a member until I get an XBox One - wife and kids are really expensive - and would then look into rejoining. Speaking of dead weight, anyone got an XBox One laying around?

1 AntwortenTime to get this purge under way, too much dead weight

Asenjin please keep me in Nightswatch!

Bearbeitet von BillFngMurry: 1/21/2015 1:26:57 AMgot it, I'll make sure to check the forums. I looks at the clan wall all the time, the forums not as much. you sir, have now changed that, and I think that's a good thing.

2 AntwortenDon't purge me bro!! LOL. I would love to stay in here, I'm on at the times mentioned but still haven't had the chance to play with any clanmates. I've posted here and there on the forum for people to add me or for help in current strikes/raids I'm running, but no responses still at this point. I actually came on the forum here just now to post an "add me on the wall again". Don't want to be dead weight here; add me and let's play clanmates!!
-
2 AntwortenI have been looking for the "purge" post, hope I don't miss it, I researched clans for days before coming to the conclusion that this was the best clan for me, I have been here less than a month and you guys have been awesome. I am more than happy here and have played with a lot of great guys. Thanks for letting me in, and giving us the opportunity to grind with others like us.

Purge is good
-
I'm new to the clan and would love to be able to set DoD NightsWatch as my clan tag.
-
1 AntwortenBeautiful post, hope everyone reads this
-
Sounds good. I feel like I am mainly responsible for this. I don't want to make any unnecessary work for anyone. If I can't set it as my clan no biggie I still have played with a lot of people in here. No one seems to care that I don't have the clan tag. I have been part of other clans where if you did not have it set as your clan they would not play with you.

Agreed Asenjin. Thanks too to HB for posting it on the wall. I rarely check the group threads other than the wall posts.

Looks like the shrubs in the landscaping by the front door need a trimming.

1 AntwortenGood post, thx to HB for bringing it to my attention in the group chat.
