Before you spend countless hours grinding for icebreaker, make sure its a weapon you'll actually use. I have one (actually 2)
and love mine. However there are some drawbacks to this weapon.
1. The recoil.
The recoil on Icebreaker is huge. You will have to reacquire you target after each shot. Its not like some sniper rifles where the scope drops back down right where it was with the last shot.
2. Ammo.
Yes its true it never runs out of ammo and you never have to reload it. However, once you are out of rounds (6) you will need to wait for it to recharge a round before you can take another shot. Also green ammo drops become useless when using icebreaker. This is very important to remember when out or almost out of ammo. So you don't run out of hiding to try and grab green ammo drops and possibly die.
Each shot you fire should always be aimed for a critical. Thats what will drop enemies quickly. It does have the mulligan perk(missing a shot has the chance to return the round to the magazine) but it does not work all the time (about 25% of the time it will give an extra round).
3. Zoom.
The scope on icebreaker is designed for long distance shots NOT close range. There is no reticle for nonzoom. Again its meant for long distance shots.
With all this said though, for the recoil it is controllable. Once you get used to it, you can recover quickly and take another shot.
As far as ammo goes use your six rounds wisely then switch to a scout rifle to stay sniping. Once your six rounds are replenished switch back and hammer the enemy rinse and repeat til enemy is dead.
Zoom. Where the extreme zoom is concerned, know that's what to expect so position yourself wisely when being approached by or approaching enemies. Keep them as far away as possible and you will have no problems. This will also give you a chance to regenerate some ammo before the enemies can get to you.
Granted their is no reticle for non-zoom however given practice you can get good at shooting enemies close range without zooming in. Its tricky but it is doable.
All in all I love my icebreaker, but this is one of those weapons where you either love it or you hate it.
These are my OPINIONS and should be viewed as that. These are my thoughts on the icebreaker. Thnx for reading and if you have an icebreaker feel free to leave your opinions on the weapon as well.
EDIT NOTE 1: Be aware that as an exotic as long as bungie continues to allow us to upgrade exotics to current max damage output this weapon (along with all other exotics) will never be outdated, Like black hammer and atheons epilogue.
