This is where Destiny fell apart for me.
Level 1-20 is pretty straightforward. Kill things, level up. You EARN your level, no one can argue that. Kill in PvE, kill in PvP, you're earning your level.
Level 21-29 is a little trickier but still very reasonable. Some people got lucky with legendary gear drops, some had to work for the marks to buy their gear (whether crucible or vangaurd), but at the end of the day, you still earned your level.
This was a good system. Play however you want, earn your level. Work hard and the game rewards you.
Then there is level 30 where Bungie decides to abandon this system. Suddenly, you can't earn level 30. You don't get to be level 30 until the games decides you get to be level 30. For some of my friends, the game decided they earned level 30 after 3 raid runs. For me (13 raids later), it still hasn't decided I've EARNED level 30. So tell me Bungie, why haven't I earned level 30?
And don't blame RNG. RNG is an excuse for lazy game design. Build a proper algorithm, one that rewards effort.
I'm sure this rant is nothing new, but thanks for reading.
EDIT: It seems a lot of you are missing the point. This isn't a thread about other MMO's with RNG (all of which have an open market system), this is about Destiny. The "Well other games have RNG" defense is a really poor one and doesn't contribute to the conversation. Level should be an expression of your skill/effort, not your luck, which the game does really well from lvl 1-29.

A Perfect point. I hope Bungie reads this and considers some ways to improve it in the future of Destiny.

How do you think deeJ feels, he's not even 30 and he's a bungie employee...?

I have raided around 10-15 times, most of the time getting to atheon and the team giving up coz of glitches, but this week was the week the raid decided to give me gear I done the normal raid got the boots, luckily got into a group of realy skilled 29s and 30s and we done atheon on hard, I got the helmet and the time breaker Done the raid on normal on my warlock and got the boots and, the chestpiece and VISION OF CONFLUENCE, which I have wanted for ages All this week THE RNG IS STRONG WITH THIS ONE
-
Two days ago, I'd have +1'd this, after my 15 completed raids and 3 level 29s. Then two things happened. First, I saw a fan-made drop probabilities table on Reddit. The probability of a chest piece across an entire normal raid is 15%. So you'd expect to run 7 raids to get it, or rather in the 5-9 raids. My most heavily-raiding character had done 7. So, I figured, maybe it's not such bad luck after all. And I realised that I only knew 2 lvl 30s in 30 players. Then, I got two characters to lvl 30 yesterday. So now I'm inclined to do what other lvl 30s do - be patronising to 29s about how they basically suck because they wouldn't win the lottery if they bought a ticket this one time. After all, what's the point of lvl 30 if you can't be patronizing? It's not like it unlocks gear; so it must be designed to unlock "snob" for you.

Bearbeitet von yDreamseller: 11/23/2014 3:13:23 PMI completely agree with this post! If only there was a solution to RNG, and Bungie had such algorithm! The best weapons and gear are supposed to be hard to get, to an extent I believe random loot drops are good because they keep you playing. But i mean it's so EASY to get 30 light gear in IB now it takes away the grind people put in to get their gear from the raid.

2 AntwortenGear should not dictate level

Bearbeitet von TPoppaPuff: 11/18/2014 2:58:36 AMYou're absolutely right in pretty much everything you said. Other MMOs have balance. In Destiny if you don't get one set of gear you basically just pissed away part of your life for nothing. People that respond with "It's RNG, nub," are basically admitting they don't know shit about game design and why Destiny is inferior to other games with RNG because other games still reward the player.
-
I agree wirh you completely. I will say though currently they are working to change my mind, if the weekly special events continue to offer gear that can take you to 30 through grinding pvp or pve than I will feel as though skill and effort will be more validated.

2 Antwortenthis game sucks, 22 raids later all on HARD, and still no mythoclast, and only one lvl 30 and still 2 29's

1 AntwortenIf there was trading I would trade a full set of raid gear for VoC

2 AntwortenWhile I have made other comments about the RNG in other threads, in this case I agree that pure RNG determining level is a bit off. But another question to add on: what real point is there to reaching 30, other than to reach 30? Especially with the level cap going up in less than a month. Just a thought, but I honestly don't think the RNG system is going anywhere.

1 AntwortenTo much complaining. I have 3 characters level 30. No garbage exptic armor

Chatterwhite....

1 AntwortenI whole heartedly agree. With RNG it is entirely possible that a person could get every piece of raid gear their first time through the vault or they could get no raid gear no matter how many times they raid.
-
My problem with the raid gear is this. I spend most of my time bringing up my faction rep so I can have each piece of armor dedicated to a specific weapon. In my case Auto Rifles, from reload speed to more ammo. I spent a lot of time gaining rep, acquiring the marks. All for the game to throw me a piece of raid gear that does nothing for me. I have boots on both characters, you know what perk it has. Heavy Ammo...I rarely use heavy weapon. All this time spent only for the game to give me something that breaks my build. And for what? To get to the mythical level 30. I can do just as well at 28 or 29. I don't feel like 30 actually matters...at all.

Real game starts at lvl 20 Pretty sure this was stated a while ago

I understand your pain guardian. RNGesus has showed me lots of raid love. But RNG just about kicked my ass when i was lvl 26 or 27...i needed just a handful of shards and it took me what seemed like weeks to earn them...doing daily's got me energy...public events got me motes or energy...i resorted to buying and burning legendarys and exotics. I was stuck on the boots for about 3 weeks. But during those 3 weeks the gauntlets and found verdict were the only repeats. I got my boots and hit the hard raid up twice and got the helm, sparrow, ship, timepiece, and mythoclast. My friend has 3 toons level 29...he's been level 29 on all three since i was level 27 with my one character. 3 of us are now level 30 and he is still lvl29....he takes it in stride though. He's like oh well maybe next week...and we are all cursing the game haha
-
I'm sorry you have had those troubles... the first 3 times I did raid on normal, I got gloves, then boots, then chest. then my first clear on hard I got helm. I never knew what the fuss was about but I have friends who have 3 characters and still have not got a full set of raid gear. I would be pissed too...
-
1 AntwortenI agree. I think if you are eligible for a piece of raid gear an algorithm should check what you already have and give you the missing piece. I have 6 chest pieces, 4 gauntlets and 5 helmets for the titan but never got the boots in over 20 raids. its like they are not on the loot drop list for me. Also there are no exotic boots yet that could help. My hunter just needed 4 raids to get to lvl30.
-
I agree, that's why I created this thread: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/78626980/0/0
-
My problem with lvl 30 raid gear is that you're locked into the same perks. Example, my Titan, I have armor setup just for Striker & another setup for Defender.
-
10 AntwortenOh. Wait!! The author is still wearing a Queen's chest armor piece although Xur was selling and exotic one this weekend. THE PROBLEM IS NOT THE SYSTEM! IT'S YOU! Stop whining!
-
2 AntwortenWho cares? Mcc, far cry 4, gta5, and dragon age are out!!!! -blam!- destiny. We'll except on Tuesday and Wednesday. I still enjoy getting my raid on regardless of the useless shards I get that can't help further upgrade my already maxed armor. I get lucky on guns tho....... It's something I guess.

3 AntwortenAll whiners frustrated who didn't play the Raid consistently enough or didn't use your intelligence to move your active exotic around to cover the missing raid gear. (Unless you are missing the boots, than you're screwed. Keep trying. Stop being lazy. A normal and a hard raid with each character per week is a lot of chance)
