Are stories in games a waste ?
Should developers just focus on multiplayer and make a live action or comic to tell the story. Just have the single player for fun and not give much of a story to it ?
Ign guys say stories don't matter in games.
Gamers don't remember plots. So what's the point trying to make one in the games. Why not make a comic that tell a story, that way they will remember the plot etc.

1 AntwortenStories are the only thing I care about when I play games. In fact for the majority of the games I play I don't even touch the multiplayer till after I finish the campaign!
-
Absolutely not. Stories are the only things that get me into games anymore
-
It really depends on the game, man. You can't just make a blanket statement like that. The majority of games benefit from a story, even games that are more gameplay oriented (GTA, Halo, HalfLife). Some games people play for mindless fun, so a story is probably unnecessary (CoD, Battlefield, Titanfall). Some games are extremely improved with an awesome story (The Last of Us, BioShock, Portal). Notice how I stayed in the "shooter" genre, save Portal. Those are the games where commentators from IGN would say story is the least important in, and I full heartedly disagree.
-
Lolno. If anything. SP should be focused more on than MP.

Stories are the only thing that make me like a series and willing to continue playing it and buying sequels.
-
I would say games like Gears of War, Mass Effect, Red Dead Redemption and Skyrim all prove that stories are not a waste of resources.

11 AntwortenStories, I think, are what make the game. Let's face it the gears gameplay wasn't great, but gears was. Why? The story. Excellent original story. The only reason I buy games now is for the story.

1 AntwortenSpec Ops The Line, Mass Effect, Far Cry, Bioshock, and The Last of Us beg to differ.
-
1 AntwortenOnly when it's a series like Battlefield which didn't even start out with a campaign.
-
No. Look at Halo and Mass Effect.

3 Antworten
Ign
Do you actually care for what they have to say? kek

*Reads title.* wut? *Sees Username.* Ooooooh,ok, that makes sense.
-
ugh. no. why. please. don't take me down that route. *cries*
-
Not for me. Most of the time, good gameplay just isn't enough. The sense of culture (a similar concept to story, I think) is what keeps me going back to play Fallout and Bioshock over and over.
-
No give me a story every time what the hell
-
Don't make me sick. If you want a further explanation, tell me; I'm about to go eat.

3 AntwortenYou never cease to amaze me. Just when i think you couldn't possibly say anything dumber...

Bearbeitet von The Random: 5/2/2014 11:06:10 AMThe ONLY games where a story is a waste of a resource are the Battlefield games (not including Bad Company 1 & 2). Other then that, I wholeheartedly disagree with anyone who honestly believes stories don't matter in videogames.

1 Antwortenstop posting, your threads are getting dumber by the hour.

1 AntwortenIGN says story doesn't matter but will 10 almost any story intensive game. Go to IGN for news, not opinions.

You owe me some IQ points, asshole.
-
2 AntwortenIf you want stories you should read a book. I play games and watch movies for the action, that's why Michael Bay is my favorite director.

In games that don't focus on plot, yes. Not in games like The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls or Bioshock: Infinite.
-
Depends on the game.

Depends on the game. BF4? Hell yes.
