Speaking to The Telegraph, Microsoft corporate vice-president Phil Harrison has attempted to alleviate concerns regarding Xbox One's online authentication.
"We do recognise there will be these very rare edge cases where for whatever reason your internet is down," Harrison told the Telegraph. "In those few occasions you don't have access to your usual broadband connection, you could tether your Xbox to your mobile phone. The 24-hour ping takes kilobytes of data."
While this isn't an ideal solution, this does mean that Xbox One won't necessarily become a glorified film machine should your internet connection be unusable. The fact that checking with your phone won't eat into your data allowance plan is a definite plus.
What do you think? Does this make you feel better about Xbox One's online requirements?
Step in the right direction... still doesn't redeem them though. There should be no online check-in at all. At least not for physical disc based games.

4 AntwortenI don't have any type of cell phone, just a house phone. I also go on the xbox from Friday to Sunday during the year, NOT every day. You're really close to losing a customer as well as many others.
-
Well that's not bad. I think people are over reacting.
-
That's a nice little but of info.
-
7 Antwortenagain it's not about having internet as much as the DRM and when they shut their servers down in the future. Once that happens 'pinging' the service won't matter. Your console will be denied to use the games you payed for.
-
What if I don't have a cell phone? MS is just being silly now.
-
Microsoft just can't back down from this can they?
-
I have a constant internet connection so all this crap about this topic doesn't bother me in the slightest.
-
Consoles are suppose to be about easy gaming. That is the appeal to owning a console over a PC. This isnt a simple solution.

4 AntwortenBearbeitet von FGDSFGDFG: 6/13/2013 1:06:41 AMCool for my cousin in Lusaka who has such a low internet speed it takes an hour to load a youtube video a 240p. Yeah this'll be great for him

2 AntwortenI have a Pay as you Go LG KS360, and even though it has access to internet, it can't load a webpage to save itself. It's not a good idea to assume everyone has an iPhone or really expensive Smartphone on a contract because we don't.

3 AntwortenTo become the console god all they need to do is make a less strict drm, used games without fees, lend games to friend for FREE. They already have good titles coming. Less hope halo doesn't get screwed over again
-
2 AntwortenIt seems that they could have avoided all of this trouble by not putting this short sighted 24 hour thing in.
-
1 AntwortenI'll feel better about the Xbox One when they get rid of online authentication.
-
3 AntwortenSo you can even tether your Xbox to your mobile phone. What excuse do people have now? They dont have mobiles?
-
15 AntwortenI don't care how much data it uses, it simply shouldn't exist.

To the casual audience Microsoft is apparently going after this just makes the Xbox One seem even more convoluted.
