Monetization: Something’s Gotta Go
Let me start by saying, yes, I know microtransactions (mtx) aren’t going anywhere. I don’t have a problem with them existing, within reason. I’m a dedicated player who buys the full $100 package each year, but nothing else.
But wow, are the mtx in this game out of hand. You guys charge for everything possible, and even though I’m enjoying the game I can’t fathom why I would spend more money beyond the actual content.
Season passes, dungeon keys, cosmetics, etc. are all things we expect (yes even dungeon keys, I have no problem paying for content). But then you tack on transmog and overpriced resell of old cosmetics (see season of the worthy stuff this week) and I think something has to give. There’s no way you need this much monetization.
You can keep all the passes, keys, and cosmetics. But make transmog free and automatic, and make season passes retroactively swappable. Btw, this is coming from someone who always gets everything from each pass. But it’s kinda BS to see the stuff I spent $10 on being sold for nearly $100 now.
I really try to see Bungie’s side of the story, but man, some of this stuff is inexcusable. Something has to give.

I didnt play season of the worthy because it was -blam!-, but paid for it (annual pass). Those of us who paid for the content but didnt play it should have the option to purchase the season pass cosmetics for bright dust the following season at the bare minimum. This would have been the fairest way of doing things. But no, bungie once again proves they are nothing but a bunch of super greedy money starved scumbags. If you never payed for the content, then fine make it for silver only. But C'mon I already paid for this -blam!-.

Then they raised the price of the season pass to $15 (they say $12 but you cant buy 1200 silver, you HAVE to buy 1500 therefore its $15 idgaf what bungie says) for literally no reason other than greed, they can say "inflation this inflation that" but its not, its greed and "minimal viable product". Theyre still charging full price for years old DLC that isnt even in the game anymore and over charge for the absolute minimum barebones content because they know addicts will continue to pay for it chasing the destiny 1 high theyll never get. Bungie doesnt deserve another cent 🤷♂️

You know what the sad part is? They created a perfect anti-fomo system for Halo back when they were making it. "Oh you missed a season pass that had items you liked? No problem, if you purchased that expansion, just opt to level THAT season pass instead." Halo 1, 2, 3, 4 and Reach have this. If you miss a season, you can just select the season you want to focus on leveling. Bungie did this. So it's not a matter of them not having a way to solve this, its simply them not wanting to.

2 AntwortenNow Bungie can exclaim “🤩 Buy the season pass and get $90+ dollars value for only $15 🤩”. It also ‘justifies’ 🤮 the ridiculous cost to unlock 10 season pass levels for those that don’t have time to play through it. The level of monetisation seems like what could be expected in a completely free to play game.

Don't worry, they're just deleting some of the rewards we've earned in game so we've got that going for us, which is nice.

It's not just this business that takes advantage of their player base either. I remember how this business would lie about things like this. Pretending they didn't mean to do it giving their fake apologies, and most of you guys would take the bait as you always have just so they could turn around and do it again with something else later down the line. Holidays are their favorite days. They get to pull things like this and hide, staying silent about it because they know people that throw money at the screen are going to buy garbage like this no matter the cost. Now they just don't give a... to even give a fake apology because people will buy anyway 😂🤦♂️ The fans are the problem and as long as you have people who don't care about throwing money at the screen, no business will ever change their ways.

I genuinely don't know why anyone is surprised or bothered by the returning loot prices. They are the same that all the other cosmetics cost, and they add "value" to the seasonal pass purchase. Expecting Bungie to make them cheap for some reason is such weird behavior. The monetisation has been bad for a loooooong time, and people still spent that money like crazy! Why should this be ANY different?

Its not going anywhere because even the devs are getting monetized and shafted now. For those unaware the Unity engine will be charging devs per download after certain criteria are met for their games in a very short tl;dr of the situation. Thankfully, Bungie doesn't use Unity but the situation is pretty representative of where the industry is at. AAA and even AA is really not in a good spot. Indie is doing good but Indie only goes so far. The only way things will change is by speaking with your wallet. As much as its said, its true. And really more people need to start doing it rather than continually feeding in. As long as people keep feeding in, they'll do this to us. And that goes for all the devs and publishers.

Can't even go one new release without some popup telling you to buy something, got the new raid exotic? "PLEASE BUY OUR ORNAMENT PLZ!!!!!" complete a title? "HEY YOU CAN BUY OUR TITLE PIN LOOK BUY BUY!!!" They even do this crap for content that you've paid for too its completely obnoxious and genuinely pathetic. Get ready for the complaints in a year or two about how confusing the dungeon key situation is, because you have to buy them separately for silver and there isn't a bundle for them. New players get popups for buying all these different expansions that it just causes headaches and new players will just leave in droves when they constantly see how many popups and reminders that they 'HAVEN'T PURCHASED CONTENT PLZ BUY BUY BUY BUY!!!!' Its not even like Destiny is a free to play game that needs to pester you into buying something because its free. Hell you don't even get a game really when you play the F2P version because the game literally is the expansions, its not even like FF14 or something like that where you get a good chunk of story experience for free to coax you in its just 3 missions on the cosmodrome and then you better pay up if you want even a slice of the actual game. But yeah I wouldn't go hoping Bungie suddenly has a change of heart on monetisation since they got the junior devs working on this game till their other games come out. But considering how they've handled Destiny those other games are most likely going to be complete flops.

Transmog- Gl with that. Swappable Season Passes- Gl with that. (Have you seen how much they’re charging for the Season of the Worthy cosmetics?) This game is running on its last legs in the 10 year plan. I wouldn’t blame Bungie if they just said “F it” and just monetize the WHOLE game at this point. They don’t care about the player experience and their actions prove it. For example, I just wanted a sparrow called “Braytech DREAM9” aka the Rainbow Sparrow and it was available for BD late in Season 14 or 15 (can’t remember the exact details but it was before Witch Queen released). Was 100 BD short and couldn’t get it. Fast forward to now and it’s not even in the Eververse store nor Collections anymore. Even when people legitimately WANT to buy -blam!- from Eververse, Bungie STILL finds a way to screw everyone. Good post, but just like everything else in this game they don’t care about you.

Why not just always have it for sale? Doesn’t that make more money? It’s as if this is being treated like an exiting piece of content only the lucky ones will get a hand on before it’s gone.

They shouldn’t sell previous season pass armour. Instead, sell the season pass and allow players to choose what season passes you can level up and in turn unlock through gameplay / xp. Players who don’t complete bought season passes would also be able to go back and re-level ones they previously hand. This would still be a monetisation source but will feel much more fair to the player base.

3 AntwortenThere's a reason I stick with Warframe and Warframe is hailed as one of the fairest if not the fairest free to play, you get content as big -blam!-100 DLC from destiny for free with cosmetics being the only real money purchase that you can still bypass through trading, allowing you to have almost everything for $0

Bungie loves money. Imagine if they invested in the core playlist and made those 3 modes amazing. The player drop off wouldn’t of been so bad, and instead they get new players. But with the current drip feed seasonal model, a bad pvp, neglected gambit, and a snooze fest vanguard mode I can understand why bungie needs to be greedy. Bungie mistakes gets pushed onto the small, but loyal community that remains. What’s next?

If they start putting adept weapons or artifice armor in the shop, players would have an honest gripe but it’s dress up not shoot out. All games do it. It’s even more annoying to see streamers cry about it to make money off of stirring the pot and the next video they post, they have all kinds of goodies from the shop on. It’s beating a dead horse.

Hell, if they asked 1500 silver for ALL THREE sets together, I'd take it, along with an option to purchase them for Bright Dust. This blatant greed is frankly getting pretty disgusting. Who are they trying to impress, Bobby Kotick and John Riccitiello?
