We are now over 72 hours, 3 days, of many people on Win10/8/7 being completely unable to even get to the main menu or play at all, no matter what attempted fixes they try. No sign of a daily-reset-scheduled hotfix today. Last hotfix I am aware of was Thursday. I am unable to edit my previous thread, so... here we are. If I could have, I would have e.g. edited the previous thread to indicate it had at least been added to Known Issues, etc.
Guardians: Things to mention in your reply, specific to the computer you run Destiny 2 on: Which OS are you running? Laptop or desktop? Did you already have Battleye installed before the first Season of the Lost download? Do you play a lot of other high-end games that might have installed a fix or something that caused problems? Do you have any software development software (e.g. SDKs/IDEs/etc) installed? Please remember to inform Bungie of anything you find that might help them fix it, and help keep the issue visible until you can play again. More individual Guardians consistently reminding Bungie they're still unable to play should put us closer to the top of Bungie's priorities for a fix, and that's what we need.
Bungie: The Thursday hotfix did not change anything regarding this bug for anyone, as far as I can tell, and I have not seen any Bungie acknowledgement of that fact yet, nor have I seen any sort of ETA for a fix or even when to check back for an ETA of a fix. Even just a "won't be fixed before next week" would be better than nothing, and it's very much looking like no one affected by this bug will be able to play all weekend. Given the severity of the bug, I am explicitly asking that Bungie provide daily updates on progress or lack thereof for this bug. Leaving it at an open-ended "investigating" is inadequate for a bug of this severity. Otherwise there will naturally continue to be hundreds of increasingly unsatisfied people who can no longer play the game milling around the forums looking for news. That's not good for anyone and it is preventable, even if it would require management to adjust their policies (that e.g. restrict what representatives are allowed to say, or what information is given to them to relay to us) to do so. It's time to improve communication re:this bug. Please give us a specific URL, like a Bungie-created thread, that is updated at least daily with progress or at least a specific acknowledgement that the bug still affects a substantial portion of the userbase after the latest hotfixes. When the game fails to even run for days on end, the Known Issues thread is insufficient unless the line is updated in more detail daily so we know e.g. that you know a hotfix didn't work.
This is especially bad after all the season hype leading up to a massive shock disappointment for hundreds or thousands of Guardians of not being able to play the hyped content, or ANY Destiny 2 content at all. Bungie management needs to do better at providing the resources and freedom to workers to avoid situations like this. Also note that the entire seasonal/vault model with content being available only for limited periods makes this situation even more unacceptable. If we knew when we could get back in, or that we could just come back in a year and not miss out on the content, that would help. Bungie executives: Do better. Pete Parsons: Do better.
I will attempt to catalog all the forum info on this topic: Previous (mostly uneditable/unupdatable?) threads:

If anyone feels like pointing out more related threads, or pointing people in those threads to whatever is the most active front-page thread at the time as it changes, go for it.
EDIT1: The Bungie reply to the "Is the handling of this bug acceptable under the circumstances?" thread has just? been updated with: "UPDATE 2: We've confirmed that a change we made in our builds for safety against buffer overruns is the cause of this issue. We are figuring out how to best fix this issue."
EDIT2: The Bungie reply to the "Program can't start due to mysterious missing file (win7, 8, 10)" thread has just? been updated with: "UPDATE 3: Unfortunately, this issue will not be resolved before the weekend begins."
Well, now I'm sad. Please still answer the polls if you haven't already, but other than that, looks like everybody still affected can go play other games until Monday - unless you want to stay for the company, of course. Remember to keep the issue alive if you want to help with that.

4 Antworten in diesem Sub-ThreadBearbeitet von China's Government=Fascist: 8/28/2021 6:57:04 PMI think we need to formally ask them to stop marking progress reports as answers. This thread is NOT fully answered, the bug is still affecting thousands of players. Marking an answer should be saved for when the bug is fixed. It interferes with updating the community by blocking edits and shows disrespect for all those adversely affected. As such, we're gonna need a new megathread. Again. If anyone feels like doing the honors, please keep up with the topic and be ready to edit your thread while you can to keep the community updated, especially if it makes it to Monday. You can use the "Start Topic" at the bottom of this thread's original post to autolink it to here which will make it much easier for people to find and thus more likely to reach the front page to replace this one. Consider including a catalog like I have here, or at least a backlink to this thread, as well as tags like #SeasonOfTheLostFile #MissingFile, which you have to edit in after creation. A suggestion for poll question: "Are you or someone you want to fireteam with unable to play Season of the Lost?"

Bearbeitet von Kell of Kellogs: 8/30/2021 5:36:17 AMHi, I’d like to clarify why I marked Bungie’s reply as the answer. When a reply is marked as an answer it is pinned to the top of the thread (below the OP). In doing so, users who browse the #help forums see a “Bungie Replied” tag on the thread. Opening the thread they will immediately see Bungie’s response at the top which has their current progress with updates. It also links to a known issue thread. Please stick to your current thread rather than making new ones. New threads attempting to recreate a “mega thread” when one is still available will be removed as they are unnecessary and disrupt the forum from other users who need help.

Bearbeitet von China's Government=Fascist: 8/30/2021 3:22:47 PMThe bug remains a priority 1 problem for thousands and your tag torpedoed my thread out of visibility, as has happened to earlier megathreads where people gathered. That is unreasonable and non-constructive. If the community finds the Bungie answer particularly useful it will tend to float to the top of the thread naturally, as it usually does - if it doesn't, you should probably consider why instead of forcing it. Additionally, the "Bungie replied" seemed to be present just from the reply being there, NOT from marking it as an answer. I do hope you're not counting anything not on the first page of trending as "available," for the purposes of what you used that word regarding, are you? This is an issue affecting thousands of users in the most severe way possible for the type of product Bungie sells for over 6 days now. Newcomers cannot generally easily find a megathread if it is not at a minimum on page 1 trending, as seen by various other people creating new threads, often with less info, as soon as the megathreads are off that page, sometimes resulting in considerably more. I currently have 0 threads in help's top trending page. As such, I am asking you and the rest of the staff directly NOT to forcibly mark threads about UNFIXED bugs as "answered." You can see many people in the community complaining about the practice of marking these threads answered, how it makes them feel about Bungie, and how it adversely impacts the conversation and ability to keep people updated. Continuing to do so will likely only raise tensions and cause more negative spillover to media like steam, reddit, twitter and others. That's not preferable for anyone. Most of the primary stakeholders here obviously prefer a single, highly informative megathread clearly visible to having to navigate through a dozen+ smaller ones, and marking them answered is clearly harmful to that interest. Also, where is the link "to a known issue thread." created by marking as answered? I don't see it. EDIT1: While the new pinned thread does help, it's an incomplete solution as it can't be replied to and especially under circumstances like these, people are going to want to share thoughts, some of which may help in finding a better solution. Making a crowd like this feel silenced or unheard can be dangerous from a Public Relations/Optics perspective, so please be cautious. It's very important to maintain the best optics practical in circumstances like this. EDIT2: Glad to see the reply option has since been enabled on that sticky. That's a step in the right direction. The initial state had me pretty concerned about the implications.
