What’s your alternative? No one is going to spend their time and effort hacking into someone’s Xbox or Sony account through phone authentication. If it were, then it would be rampant.

Its why sms 2 factor authorization isnt allowed in a lot of places due to the risks. And the stealing of xbox, steam, psn, seitch, etc accounts is rampant. I just looked on one forum and saw over 100 pages of these game accounts being hacked and sold. Its been like that for years. I first saw how big it was during the xbox 360 days. I dont have an alternative. Never claimed i did. Was just making a comment on 2fa.

Ill stick to my knowledge and personal experience. As a matter of fact it IS used successfully in MANY places.
And the stealing of xbox, steam, psn, seitch, etc accounts is rampant. I bet none of them adhered to securing their accounts. I have YET to see any of my friends both online and offline have their accounts hacked.

Does that mean it doesnt happen to people everyday? No i dont know how its done. I dont know how alot of things are done. That doesnt mean its not doable. I dont know how to put a v8 in a pinto yet its been done. Your in IT and you dont know about these things? I hope your not the sole it person for the company than. Hell i dont have 2fa on any of my game accounts and never had them stolen. Dont know anyone personally thats ad theirs stolen. That doesnt mean it doesnt happen all the time. Hell i can buy an ebook and mentorship on said forum specifically for bypassing sms verification. Criminals evolve just like everyone else.
Ive never been held at gunpoint and had my wallet stolen. Does that mean it doesnt happen to people everyday?
Strawman argument. So does dying by tripping on a curb, lol.
No i dont know how its done. I dont know how alot of things are done.
I believe that.
Your in IT and you dont know about these things? I hope your not the sole it person for the company than.
I never said I didn’t know anything about it, you’re making poor assumptions. You’re downplaying the usefulness of 2FA, yet Bungie, Sony, Xbox, banking institutions as well as other corporations use this everyday successfully. Usually these are bypassed through virus’ that can exploit the 2FA. I wont go into details on how they access your personal info, but they can get around it through either your PC or phone.
Hell i dont have 2fa on any of my game accounts and never had them stolen. Dont know anyone personally thats ad theirs stolen. That doesnt mean it doesnt happen all the time.
You’re a prime target right there.
Hell i can buy an ebook and mentorship on said forum specifically for bypassing sms verification.
Nah, don’t waste your money. “It’s not what you know that makes you dangerous, its what you think you know”. - Don’t minimize the usefulness of 2FA (using SMS, an Authenticator app, etc.)

Sms 2fa can be bypassed without ever comming into contact with the users devices at all. One well known method is by spoofing the number to a new device. Theres other methods but im not interested in going that far down the rabbit hole. Cloudfire, At&t, and many other businesses now no longer use sms 2fa for their staff. You know why? Because its not secure. People already know how to bypass it and already have on big scales. Its also not always the user that has to be SEd. In fact alot of times its not the user. Its their carrier that gets tricked. Why do so many businesses offer it to their users? Because its better than nothing. Its gives the user more peace of mind. And it also will prevent low level criminals from being able to get your info. Locking your car door is better than nothing. It wont stop anyone from getting in your car though. But it will stop the low level criminals. Your in IT. Do you not keep up with technology? Do you not know that companies that need to be secured dont ever use sms 2fa? They use hardware and software 2fa. Which you did mention but you were just moving the goal posts. We were speaking about sms 2fa and nothing else. Im not downplayong anything. In fact its people in your field (IT) that have been saying for years the sms 2fa is a joke. A simple google search would show you that. Idk if by “IT” you meant you worked for geek squad. But i would be emberassed if i was in IT and trying to defend sms verification as “secured”.

I didn’t read the wall post. The parts I did read are absolutely untrue and you’re misinformed. There isn’t a foolproof solution, but you downplaying 2FA is absolutely ignorant. Also, a friendly suggestion is to learn to quote. It’s not hard and at least people can take your points a bit more seriously. However since you admit to never using 2FA and not knowing the technology (As quoted above), you’re magically now an expert at finding debatable information on google. “We’re not laughing with you, we’re laughing at you” Also, personally attacking me shows your insecurity. I’ve been in IT since the 90’s. However people can choose to either believe your downplaying of 2FA or they can use the suggestions of Bungie, Sony, Microsoft and Apple. Have a good one. Enjoy your “win”. Lastly, to make you feel better, you win the internet. I can’t debate a topic with someone that admits to being ignorant about the topic.
