Loved playing Destiny since it was released back in 2014. As a shooter there's no game out there with better gunplay and feel. That has been the main attraction for many who value that over the wealth of well-written Lore that accompanies it.....Sadly, "accompany" is the extent it is implemented into the games.
For example; Before Beyond Light and Season of the Hunt was released we had a new lore update on this website to read. Osiris investigating enemy races being brainwashed by Xivu Arath, in an attempt to create her own enthralled army. Sagira was destroyed trying to save Osiris' life as he attacked a Hive Royalty get-together (Ritual)
Decent read, but could Bungie not have improved this by forgetting about the story alone and widely unread, and create an extended cutscene of the event, thus setting up the Season with a bit of added excitement and peril? Had it been secretly shown to us when logging into the beginning of the Season it would have had a tremendous impact.
There's another real issue for me. This is good Vs evil endgame stuff, and at no time do I ever feel in danger. The system is being invaded by the ancient enemy of the Light, and I'm asked to bake cookies.....cookies. There's no sense of doom on the horizon, and the in-game story is just so widely disconnected from the amazing lore that Bungies writers have created.
Many players out there I'm sure couldn't give a toss about lore. They just want to shoot stuff. But they're not really being given the in-game means to learn why they're on a specific planet to kill a specific boss, for example. Each season I just found myself saying that they missed another great chance to show, not tell. Thats always been my main gripe with the franchise. And I put it down to laziness overall. I think their writers and Lore-creators need a bit more respect, and the opportunity to deepen the waters of a very shallow game.
