I'm gonna be honest here. I don't normally post on forums, and I don't hate beyond light. I enjoy it for what it is, and since I don't touch crucible period, I don't share others problems with that cause I simply don't care.
However, sunsetting well over half the weapons in the game was not the way to go. I get some of the loot needed to go to make way for future loot, but you got rid of an absurd amount for so little. I didn't think shadowkeep loot would also be sunset, which was a serious kick in the nuts to some of my master worked gear. It also renders both Shadowkeep AND forsaken activities pointless. You would have been better off vaulting Pits of Heresy and keeping the Prophecy dungeon.
What hurts the most though is losing two of my favorite pve weapons. The Ikelos shotgun and breakneck. I grinded HARD for breakneck, and put myself through the pain of playing nothing but gambit, alone, to get it, and now I can't even make use of it. I just can't understand how this was a necessary decision when your whole game rides on loot. It's the purpose of a looter shooter. When you start taking out loot, you take away the purpose of your game.
I was fine with losing destinations, and armor too for that matter. I had even come to accept losing my Ikelos shotgun, which was hard when you had already nerfed the gun in the past. But losing a pinnacle weapon I grinded so hard for? That was a really hard kick in the jewels. I honestly hope you revert these changes, cause sunsetting this much stuff was definitely a bad call. We lost far too much, and gained so very little for it.
I understand sunsetting had to happen, I do. I'm not saying it shouldn't have happened, but you implemented it in the worst way possible. Considering the fact that you're still charging for Forsaken and Shadowkeep, you should have left the gear from then alone. The only gear that shoulda been sunset was all gear from Year one/Red War, and all the gear from the four planets we lost. We shouldn't have lost gear from dlc that you're still charging for. The only reason to get forsaken is for the third subclasses of each element, but that's not worth the price of Forsaken. As for Shadowkeep.. well, new light players can access the moon, and there was barely any story, so there's zero reason to have bought shadowkeep since the loot from it is pointless now.
Beyond light is good, in fact it's far better than shadowkeep. It's definitely a step in the right direction in my opinion. However, sunsetting was a failure and you seriously dropped the ball on this one. Please Bungie, at the very least give us new gear to farm in the activities for Forsaken and Shadowkeep, or un-sunset the gear from those places.

I deleted the game when the sadness of losing my breakneck really set in

I agree, I was extremely disappointed that my guns like Lone Wolf that I grinded for tirelessly is now just useless.
