SBMM is a plague to the game. I guarantee no one here will argue, as the people who put in the time in the community and make you money, Bungie, are the same guys and gals who are above the 50% line. Bungie, since you can't see why this is a bad mechanic for PvP, I will attempt to explain, from a player perspective, why it sucks.
1. Incentive. Although this is unrelated to matchmaking, it makes the Crucible experience much worse. Firstly, I have not spent a crucible token for something I've wanted in months, as it has been 2 years since you refreshed core playlist loot. Based on your "we can't do rituals because we need to make bad seraf weapons" excuse, I am guessing we are getting nothing new except armor. And, as I remember, that armor will soon be obsolete, and if it looks good, Ill just transmog it and never care to get another drop again. Also, since PvP is in a terrible state rn, I don't think I will be grinding the new casual friendly pinnacle in there. I will probably do Gambit or Strikes, and essentially never have a reason to play pvp again.
Also, loot isn't just missing, the experience is too. I remember being bad at the beginning of year two, and first went into PvP for the Chaperone. I was a scrub and got nuked, but eventually, I got better, and a few months later I was winning games. I had stuck with it and was rewarded for my effort with the satisfaction of improvement.
Those days, if I did great one match, I was happy to go into the next. Now I am scared out of my mind. I know I won because the matchmaking algorithm registered my past loss, not because I worked hard. I remember my best year two matches. I remember nothing about now.
2. Variety: Bungie, you justify adding new broken things to the game in the future, as it will just disappear with light. Spoiler, normal Crucible won't get that. Now, you might say "People can use other guns", but that is where you are wrong. You see, when you put two equal players together, the way one wins is by using something more powerful. So, good players who put hours into the game, can't use their new loot and are defaulted to the meta permanently. No fun, no variety.
I tested this and went into rumble with sky burners oath and a bow, and I got stomped. I lost match after match after match because I was using a bad load out. (It was kind of fun though). I lost not because I am worse, but because of my loadout combined with restrictive matchmaking. Good players literally can't put down the best weapons.
3. Just. Not. Fun. I love how Bungie thinks its a good idea to matchmake 6v6. Comp is the least sweaty mode currently. I love rumble, ok! It is my favorite. I liked to try different loadouts in there and practice before this. Now, I get stomped by mindbenders. It isn't enjoyable to play a laggy, badly maintained game for no reward. Titanfall gives me more useful loot than you guys do, and you are a looter!
I am not having fun playing the same old way, and the fact that some blueberry with all whites gets more enjoyment and variety than someone who has put in years is unacceptable. This game is a backwards built looter, with the lower skill people using more than the people who have grinded everything.
The mechanics are bad, the lag is bad, and the wait times are ridiculous. I get matches quicker in titanfall, a game that hasn't been updated in years, vs. the "Number one live game". I am done. Simply done.
Solution: Make the main modes (the biggest and most central indicators) non SBMM. Give them a freelance "practice" playlist, where they receive year two loot, and make the central ones give whatever the year three loot is and bonus pinnacle progress without skill based matchmaking. Just give us a reason to play, and we will. This is simple and nice, and still gives respective loot to everyone. I hope you are listening. I am hopeful that you are. I need to remember that this is just a game, and if it isn't worth my ten dollars, it isn't worth your time to hear this.
