many people are having a hard time staying engaged with D2 atm, myself included I basically was the same as you thousands of hours in D1 and with D2 I basically shelf it about a month after every content drop.
I was about to finish my outbreak cat and got my izanagis with cat in same day but cant feel bothered to get on and play to finish them. game really feels hollow, yeah sure there better things in D2 that would of been nice in D1 but let's be honest here they were all QoL improvements. (class abilities, more story cutscenes, ingame lore)
no strike scoring except NF, no vendor refresh, no strike specific loot, no factions or any real use for them anyways, raids and puzzles have been way over complicated (mechanically overload heavy, puzzles basically same thing) Nerfing everything into the ground (to be fair they were doing that in D1 but we still could feel powerful with certain exotics) the list goes on. the end of D1 and the system in place clearly should of carried over to D2, I honestly don't see or understand why such basic things that was introduced was left behind. I understand not bringing all the guns an exotics forward besides a few here and there but wtf bungie I've heard of more people wanting to fire up D1 and play a raid and pvp more then people care to put down any other AAA title to play D2

Raids aren't the slightest bit difficult once you know the mechs. LFG however is the hardest thing in the game.

People confuse a challenge and having to learn something with practice as being "bad" these days.

It's more people die the same way everytime and don't learn.
