After having played FFXIV and WoW and seeing how much more content came from the companies having a steady stream of game income, Destiny having a system like that would be amazing. Instead of 3-4 Events per year like the harrowing, there could be a monthly event. Bungie could hire more devs and artists to create armor and weapons. Clans could create living spaces/buy areas for housing (having a clan cryptarch and bounty machine that lets you pick up all the bounties.) If you would be more open to the idea of having a massive expansion every two years and between those having mini expansions and events all the time, you might find that paying 60$ for the base large expansion and paying say $8 a month to have more activities to do is totally worth it. Running expansions off microtransactions is not a business model that is sustainable and Bungie doesn't have anything to fall back on other than Destiny right now.
