I was gonna give up on playing anything Crucible, then Iron Banner happened, and completely revitalized my interest in PvP.
Quick background: I started playing this past December. Great game. Dove into pvp, got stomped. This was expected, I had a lot to learn. Still do.
After countless rumble and quickplays with 0 kills and getting blown up immediately after respawn, I was getting discouraged. I watched videos to learn, tried to learn maps in between getting killed. KDR was 0.1 to 0.3.
Then iron banner came. I was light 570ish. Max was 650. All of a sudden I was getting kills. Even though the targets were higher level. I was finally contributing! It felt great to no longer be a drag on the team. KDR went to between 1.07 to 2.3.
The reason I love that mode has nothing to do with mechanics or light level. Something about it draws more mid and low skilled players, which seems to level out matchmaking. I do not mean this as an insult at all, I'm still not great myself. But I need to be matched against low and mid level players to have fun.
I have learned a lot from normal quickplay. Those players are amazing, with the slide sniping, aerial shooting and amazing speed with precision. I'm working toward that. Until then, I wish I had more matches like iron banner. Let me work my way through junior varsity level before I get thrown straight to the pros.
I'm loving your game Bungie, keep it coming.

Good to hear. I generally suck at PvP but seem to do much better in Iron Banner, which is odd because power levels matter. As a mostly solo player I always try to be the B-line guy in each match, as that's usually the key to a win. Destiny 1 used to have a medal and a bounty for it.
