Random thought, if any kind of light source can ruin alcohol, especially wine; then why is it that at liquor stores they keep the expensive stuff of the top shelf which is exposed to the highest concentration of light. You'd think it would be the other way around.

3 AntwortenRandom thought, how would you feel if i changed my name to "HereToLive13" just to contradict everything you say, and do. no matter how ridiculous, or baseless the statements were.

2 AntwortenNot all alcohol has the same composition. Expansive stuff probably has a higher light wavelength tolerance. You know, because it’s expensive.

Top shelf is in reference to expensive liquor. Wine stays in cellars for darkness and temperature control to age properly. It is to keep the good stuff out of reach of the barbarians, for the barbarians were somewhat short, making it difficult for them to pilfer without a step stool, or making a barbarian pyramid.

2 AntwortenIt doesn’t matter what shelf it’s on when stored in a cellar.

1 AntwortenCobravert is right, top shelf is just an expression. Wine is usually stored in a controlled environment and bottles are laid horizontally so that wine itself keeps the corks moist and prevents shrinkage. If its not sealed properly air gets in and eventually wine gets bad.

2 AntwortenDon’t they usually mean UV light? Not artificial light sources?

6 AntwortenI would guess so that it is not easily knocked over and destroyed. Last thing you want is someone there to buy a $6 fifth of whiskey with change knocking over an expensive bottle of Chateau De La Wino.

1 AntwortenSo the children can’t touch the good stuff. At least I assume, I don’t drink at all.

This is like Words of Wisdom but more complex.
