I hate the 'token in a slot machine' analogy.
That's the EXACT SAME WAY reputation worked in the last game.
The problem isn't the tokens. The problem is the gear is all bland and there's nothing to grind for.
As for vendors selling their gear, that would only work if there was random rolls, OR it was a limited time event (like how iron banner in season 2 will let you buy gear directly with tokens)

In D1 we could receive items not only in the process of raising the level of the faction, we could buy what we wanted. But in one moment I still agree with you, random rolls are the determining factor of getting satisfaction from grinding items. P.S.: Direct selling of weapons even with fixed rolls is still better than a stupid random. Then the legendary shards would have a greater significance. Developers should increase the loot table five times in the current situation with the game.

That's what I was referring to... Vendors have a static roll, and random rolls come from everywhere else.
-
For almost three years, D1's vendors existed with static roills that only changed when a new DLC released.
-
Okay? Your point?
-
It worked that way for shaders and ships, but not for gear. You could buy the entire weapon and gear set for each faction without RNG, and also get RNG during rank ups too
-
Eh, no. Even before you had legendary marks, you still had things like vanguard marks to directly purchase what you wanted from said vendor. It wasn't a "slot machine". The package from leveling up the vendor was just an added bonus.
-
The year one mark system was just frustrating... I never understood why the factions only accepted crucible marks, when they could level up from PvP AND PvE.
-
Right, and then got fixed with the legendary marks, but still, at least players had a way to purchase certain pieces. I'm sure the DLC update will allow us to us legendary shards. But it should've been here to start with since it was here in the first game, not as a way to say "Hey look we're improving!"
-
I hope each season they revamp the legendaries with different rolls. That would make it slightly better would it not?
-
It's really all of the above IMO. The game is fun when you're just shooting bad guys but every single thing about the loot and progression system is awful.
