Horizon Zero Dawn My Impressions / Review / Gameplay

Here is some decent scenery and combat gameplay recorded just today of Horizon Zero Dawn. I thought it was an interesting clip. It takes maybe a minute till action starts but watch it if you want to get a decent idea about it. https://youtu.be/yNBimgi5vtQ Also here are my thoughts on this game. I agree with the people saying this was better than Witcher 3 and this is after only playing the first 25 levels of Horizon. What sets Horizon apart is the open world itself plus more. The character animations are much more fluid and polished than any game that I ever played. The Horizon world has mountains and valleys., beautiful sunrises and sunsets, whoever designed the skybox, this game has the most amazing sky and night and day that i ever seen. The main characters hair is a sight to behold. The weather effects that make characters wet when it is raining, when it is cold and windy up in the high places it feels lile you are there... Aloy the main character is attractive but I found myself liking her personality much more than usual scantily clad bimbo. This is not that girl. Aloy is a total badass. She gives comment when it is getting cold. When she is doing stuff in combat she says things and it actually makes sense in context. This game is beautiful. The NPC dalogue is deep and will make you think. You can climb mountains. You can descend them. The climbing is done well. The open world is more colorful than Skyrim but feels very polished like Skyrim. It didn't feel like you were on Autopilot like in Witcher 3 when riding around on the mount and yet you could if you wanted to just follow the road. The combat. There is actually mounted combat in it works rather well. Aloy vs machine combat really shines once you start unlocking more skills. You can approach combat stealthily or command machines or you can just shoot everything or lay some traps. Its your choice how you play. I think that Bloodborne does human vs human combat better than this game but that game is more melee centered. This game does Archery really well. Quests are almost as good as Witcher 3. Some are worse some are better. The interface is much easier to use than Witcher 3 and feels well done with nice size fonts that look great and easy to navigate... Tip. Make sure you do side quests as they help your character get new abilities and improve the gameplay experience. Don't just do main story quest. Switch the quests to side quests and do them all. It is worth it. What people were saying that game is short is wrong. If you want to enjoy the game you will do side quests, errands, and even some quests where you explore old ruins from the past. Overall the quests help you get past the intial learning curve which may turn off some people. Those are really creative and sometimes has boss fights. I only played the game to level 25 so far but i feel like i can give it a review score already. I gave you pros. Here are Cons. The damage your character does initiañly is low so you need to figure out what are the best weapons for your playstyle. If you are using the wrong weapon for situation or you are not stocking up on material. And you are not saving the game often you might get frustrated at dying. You will die often. Not as often as in Dark Souls or Witcher but you can be two shotted by a strong enemy. So practice fighting different ways and learn all the weapons and utilize different strategies and damage types. You will be surprised how many times your cleverness will save you. Those really are cons as combat can be sometimes frustrating and not go how you want as there are many factors that influence combat and some of which you have no control lile enemies that can hit you even if you dodge perfectly. Some of the human enemies feel like they should die to arrows faster. Enemies are arrow sponges if you are not hitting weakpoints. Those are the cons. Another issue i was running into is not having enough healing stuff such as plants/potions early in the game and then when i attacked a village i felt like the game was giving me too many potions. So it was strange having to switch my healing from potions to plants then back to potions then back to plants again. Not really a huge deal but worth mentioning. Mostly you will be healing from plants so stock up often. I noticed that i hardly spent time crafting new potions. Another issue is saving the game. You save at bonfires, and you have a choice between a quick save and a manual save. I took advantage of both but i think the game should quicksave on its own which i think it does but it only happens after you complete a quest, so that maybe redundant option. And Manual save feels like it breaks the immersion of the game as it goes into an ugly machine interface with a blue screen and i have no idea why they went with such an outdated save game system but this does protect your save so that might be the reason. As this is the only part of the game that i did not particularly like. I hope they make save games more immersive in a future update. I haven't upgraded my pouches past level 2 yet so I ran out of room sometimes which I am sure will not be an issue after i upgrade my resource pouch. This is not really a con but I found myself selling the wrong items when i was in a hurry to continue my adventure as this game runs out of resource inventory space rather quickly much like many other games. So if you loot everything just like me, you will end up having to sell it in trade to a merchant but you will have money to put towards a new piece of armor or a weapon. I suggest you check to see what weapons and armors are available so that you don't first sell the rare machine parts which allow you to buy that weapon or armor. At current point in the game i have a purple quality Shadow Shot Bow which i really like and it has three arrow types so i am fairly satisfied with my weaponry, but it took some time finding it so check all traders and kill many machines to loot rare parts often. There were times in beginning where i felt like i didn't have the right tools for killing some of the machines but that issue gets resolved as you do more side quests and upgrade your character. But these are all minor issues which some may find not to be issues at all. I would give this game 10/10. And it is my favorite game that i played in a long time. This is probably my favorite open world game since Witcher 3, Skyrim and Assassin's Creed 2.
