I use defender in PvP to quite a bit of success, and I can say that arc blade takes 3 hits to kill you inside of a AoL Bubble, allowing for a shotgun melee response.

i just remembered, if they have encore active, they can one shot you with encore proc'd

Does it really? Damn, good thing that's rare in trials.

I know. It's slightly annoying. If one guy steps out of the bubble and somehow gets arc-bladed, the whole bubble squad is done for.

I use Defender in PvP primarily and do amazing, but its just not as good as it was. It feels like they nerfed it to be honest with you
