We did have great weapons in year one but people got them nerfed. The Vex, thorn, suros, Ghorn, shotguns all got nerfed. This is what the community asked for. Yes I agree year one gear was better but this is what happens. The community didn't enjoy great weapons.
Elemental primaries should only come back if nightfalls go back to year one style.

But the vast majority were nerfed for PVP reasons (G-horn is the only exception - and IMO, it was nerfed for entirely the wrong reasons as LFG elitism is still alive and well). [quote]The community didn't enjoy great weapons.[/quote] This is not true we DID enjoy elite weapons. People in PVP did not enjoy people having elite weapons. But that is what crucible was supposed to be- a proving ground where you could test your loot against more worthy adversaries regardless of light level. IMO, it was never meant to be an ultra-balanced E-sport type game the same way Halo was in its hayday's. And the people managing the weapons balance seem to be obsessed with trying to make Destiny an E-sport type game. Rather than try to make this game ultra balanced, they should just throw balance to the wind and let players enjoy ultra powerful guns and skills again. Sure, that person may have killed you with a thorn and you don't have one. So what? That gives you more incentive to go out and grind for it!

I actually should of stated pvp players didn't enjoy great weapons. Well they did until it was used against them. I agree people are trying to turn into a e-sport. If they want e-sports I believe cod as it's own championships. Why can't people play that? I also agree with you about thorn. Go grind for it. What does annoy me is when people ask for nerfs for a weapon because they choose not to use it themselves.

I chose not to use Thorn even in its hayday. I have a LOT of HC kills from that Era, but it wasn't from thorn. I only have 613 kills with Thorn. I would take it out now and then, but I wouldn't abuse it like most people did. I found weapons that I PERSONALLY really liked a lot and was able to use those weapons as counters for thorn. I found my Timur's Lash was an EXCELLENT counter to thorn, as it had longer range and superior 1 shot firepower and I did not need to rely on DoT to make people a 2 shot drop. People loved Felwinter's Lie back then, but I hated it because it was so slow. I much preferred my Her Courtesy before I finally got a good Party Crasher (it was the lowest impact of the 4 elite shotguns but had the highest shot rate).
