So whats your thoughts.
Here's a list of some types of metal. And an explanation of it rhythmicly and instrument wise.
Black
Black metal has a lot of fast tempos, shrieked vocals, highly distorted guitars played with tremolo picking, blast beat drumming, raw recording, and unconventional song structures.
Death
It typically employs heavily distorted guitars, tremolo picking, deep growling vocals, blast beat drumming, minor keys or atonality, and complex song structures with multiple tempo changes.
Doom
Doom metal uses slower tempos, low-tuned guitars and a much "thicker" or "heavier" sound than other metal genres. Both the music and the lyrics intend to evoke a sense of despair, dread, and impending doom
Instrumental (my favorite)
No vocals...Just the instruments. Can have any range of fast double bass tempos, and crazy guitar solos.
Power metal
power metal has more clean, melodic, high-pitched vocals, and fast pacing that is mostly driven by double bass drumming and melodic lead guitar. The rhythm guitar is defined by straight power chord progressions. Sometimes, harsh vocals are used, but usually only as backing vocals. Power metal lyrics usually involve fantasy themes. The songs often have a theatrical, epic, and emotionally "powerful" sound
Progressive metal
Progressive metal is a fusion between progressive rock and heavy metal. It is one of heavy metal's more complex genres, due to its use of unusual and dynamic time signatures, long compositions, complex compositional structures, and skilled instrumental playing, where instrumental solos are detailed and extended
Thrash metal
Thrash metal is often regarded as the first form of extreme metal. It is generally characterized by its fast tempos, complexity and aggression. Thrash metal guitar playing is most notable for the "chugging" sound it creates through low-pitched palm muted riffs, and high-pitched shred guitar solos.
(Yes most of these are just from Wikipedia (description) I don't feel like typing out every detail about the genres lol).
There are many more genres. But I think this coves the general population of main metal genres. If you want me to add one. Just adk.
I personally love instrumental, power, and some metalcore. I know it's not for everyone, and personally all the "screaming" can get a bit annoying and quite hilarious, and that's why I love instrumental and power at times. If you haven't listened to instrulmental metal it is amazing (go listen to some Animals as Leaders).
So what your thoughts on it, I know a lot of my friends say how it's "not music" and say it's "garbage", but i think metal is mainly presented as all bad screamo (I mean some is).
Whatever I'm bored, what ya think Offtopic?
Edit: Some people have argued that instrumental isn't its own type. Which I agree, it can fit under any genre it just doesn't have vocals. I just felt like listing it since its a I guess "form" of metal.

3 AntwortenI can respect the determination it takes to create the music. I can't, however, respect its fan base full of unsubstantiated music snobbery and angst. So much of the music that is made in this genre is anti-social and negative, and that in turn reflects onto its fan base. I don't have to generalize and spark a flame war, you know what die-hard metal fans look like and their place in society. Sorry.

I love it! My favorite bands include Metallica and Tool (if you consider Tool to be a metal band; I usually consider them to be progressive metal).

Metal was the cancer that killed Rock N Roll.

I like some metal but no more than 5 seconds total of screaming in a song, miss me with that. instrumental sounds cool but I just listen to rock/hard rock some breaking benjamin, three days grace. NO SCREAMING

4 AntwortenGrew up during the beginning of all metal music. Sabbath mercyful fate, slayer, iron maiden older bands than that too. Metal is more like classical music just played to a different tempo. It can be complex and simple. It takes a truely talented individual to master metal music. Pop music is formulated like potatoe chips, designed for mass consumption. Some of the greatest music ever written and recorded has been metal or metal inspired by classic rock or old punk. I love the whole genre! Blues also has heavy influence in metal music. Just sad that kids nowadays don't truly understand how hard it is to come up with truly original music. Old metallica will be played way after justin bieber dies a broke non talented punk that he is. I argued back in day that metallica would be played as classic rock)) I was told R e m was going to be bigger than zeppelin haha look at em now. Anyways love metal listen to all of it all the time)

It depends on the artist for me. I hardly ever pay attention to what genre of music they play.
