the difference between a "T" rating and an "M" rating, story-telling wise, is excessive swearing, nudity, and gore. you dont NEED an "M" rating to tackle some "mature" themes. what CAN they explore that they cant because of the "T" rating? hive are evil as fudge 'cuz they are literalizing the "might makes right" argument by reverse-genocide (killing everything EXCEPT one race: themselves). when it comes to "target audience" age/maturity segregation, it mostly falls into three categories: -marketable to kids: the kind of things that children of all ages can consume, with no swearing, erotic material, violence, or the direct (and sometimes indirect) reference to death what-so-ever. -marketable to adults: basically, it directly references, or features, drugs, sexuality, and/or violence. -general audience: the in-between. this is something that could POSSIBLY be OK for SOME youngins, or only slightly references the subject matter restricted from the kids, without stepping into the adult material. this is where destiny lies. Destinys material is "T" because thats exactly where it needs to be. light v darkness is about the principal philosophies, properly represented with villians that represent a fundamentally opposing view, aka "kill" (hive), "steal" (fallen), "conquest" (cabal), "apathy" (vex). none of these factions need more gore to get their point across (are the skelingtons not enough to show how ruthless and violent they are?). none need sex or drugs either, because temptation and seduction can be platonicly represented, just look at Alak-hul, or Toland, or Osiris. Dregen-Yor was seduced by the temptation of power and betrayed his principals (as a guardian) to do so. theres just no point, is what im saying.
