Back in the golden age of Bungie.net, when Halo was still the main focus, we fought for a SBMM outside the arena during Reach and praised it in Halo 3 and 2. We even went to 343i for Halo 4 and demanded it until they finally gave it to us.
Today's Bungie community is filled with casual players that would be BURNED AT THE STAKE by the original community for saying such things.
But what's the issue here? I believe that it's the casualisation of gamers as a whole. I'll make a bold assumption that most of you weren't around as long as I was ( in gaming ). I was a vocal gamer since the glory of Quake and UT ( end 90's ), I was gaming since the early 90's, and until like recently I didn't see the vocal community in any game turn into such weak players that would rather play dice or rigged games than to improve themselves.

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von PS_TRUDODYR: 5/31/2016 11:47:47 PMHalo had both social and ranked. Not just forced, laggy SBMM as the only option.
-
1 AntwortenSBMM worked in those games because it would still pair on connection quality. SBMM didn't work in this because you'd get paired with similar stats, but you'd be on different sides of the planet and one of you would have a ping higher than Goku's power level.

1 AntwortenIf we have skill based matchmaking, how about we get skill based guns instead of the bloom shit they insist on putting in. If matches are determined by skill, why are my bullets subject to RNG? Also, lag. They haven't solved that worth shit.
-
Did Halo have 3-4 laggy red bars skipping around the screen every game? Because that's super fun.
-
If the lag was gone I would love SBMM. I enjoy a challenge 😊

I started console online gaming with Halo CE. That was some serious hackery. PC shooters since Unreal Tournament and Counter Strike. I am absolutely against any strict form of SBMM in Destiny nonetheless. I'll tell you what Halo 5 is nowadays: It's a game with dedicated servers and no lag, a strict SBMM ladder and leagues system, a game with a balanced sandbox, Social Playlists and it's also a legit esport for years now. Now that's a game made from the ground up for competitive gaming. Destiny is and has none of that. It's a casual, laggy P2P game. It has no business of employing strict SBMM systems.

1 AntwortenWhile I agree the Halo series were indeed great games, I'm afraid you see Halo through nostalgia tinted glasses. There was most definitely lag, I'm almost 100% sure all Halo games up until Halo 5 had p2p connection. Especially reach and four were lag fests and constant dropping of games. Though you are right, Halo 3 did have the best matchmaking imo. All I'm saying is halo definitely wasn't perfect, and the community was always especially toxic, nothing really to be proud of imo.

Well said.

6 AntwortenYou have one character that isn't even high enough light level to play competitively. How would you know how SBMM has effected the game? Get up to a higher light level and higher k.d. and then see the negative effects of it.

2 AntwortenActivision wasn't involved in Halo, that's the problem
-
I have nothing against SBMM. The problem is if bungie was running halo 5 they would be like "SBMM bruh, hey lonely silver 1 randos, here's a full fireteam of diamond 6 players for you to play against" That's what wrong with destiny
-
3 AntwortenOh how the mighty have fallen. Look bud just because your old Bungie experiences do not transfer to a new games community does not mean that the people here are "casuals". Get off your high horse and go talk to the dicks over at Halo Waypoint, your argument is invalid and has faded out of relevance.
-
Oh, you mean where they had the OPTION of social or ranked playlists? Because old Bungie was better than new Bungie and actually understood that some people just want to have fun? And old Bungie also knew about having similar weapons to maintain balance, whereas new Bungie nerfs things not because they're too good but because other things are so bad that they only use the few good things? And don't forget old Bungie had dedicated servers and let you prioritize the types of players you'd play against. Sounds like Microsoft might have actually been a better parent than Sony/Activision. So, you were saying something about defending SBMM?
-
1 AntwortenSBMM is great for the casual/average players and protects them from the higher level players. The problem with SBMM is for the higher level players, the higher your KD the pool of players you get matched against gets smaller. This causes you to get matched against players from further away because there is not as many matches with good connections. This is a bigger problem in countries like New Zealand where i am and there is already a smaller player base, than say USA. The fact is that if there is no dedicated servers the matchmaking should be solely connection based so the games have the best chance to be lag free. Trust me i would be all for SBMM if there was dedicated servers then the lag would not be a problem. I dont want to stomp on people, i just want to play people with an even footing in terms of connection. There is nothing worse than playing a match against a team of laggy good players. Before anyone says it is my connection, i am green bar 95% of the time its the others in the game that are red.

You do realise that destiny is the most casual fps out there right now. SBMM doesn't belong in a casual game with no ranked playlist.
-
4 AntwortenHave bungie ever said why they don't have dedicated severs for this game? What stopped them, not money for sure! Why would you not get dedicated servers for a game they expected/hoped a huge amount of gamers to be playing. Most pvp games are to my knowledge, and the ones that are clearly don't have lag problems so what possessed them to think otherwise?

*shakes* Did someone s-say... Heresy?

Stop pretending that you speak for any of us old gamers you -blam!-ing scab. That's pretty much all I got.

Halo was balanced, had no network issues and had lower player mobility than Destiny.
-
Differences in sbmm in halo It worked The network was great No lag Optional Easily Trackable in game Balanced

Bearbeitet von Forever277: 5/31/2016 11:22:37 PMNo dedicated server I couldnt give 2 fcuks about sbmm if it didn't force me into lobbies with players based on Mars.

3 AntwortenYou seem like a NERD
-
10 AntwortenExcept halo 2 actually had true SBMM where you earned your status by beating others, not just from playing hours on end... That is why ELO is actually a good indicator of skill.
-
Ahhh memories

Hm as you said, Halo community isn't the same as Destiny community, so... What's your point? Obviously, people from battlefield wants ___ and people from battlefront wants ___. Two games by Dice, different communities.
