Bungie Hates New Players

Day 1 player here and this is a different kind of feedback post. I recently made the switch over to PS4 from Xbox One and WOW is it hard as hell to make progress in this game. You can get from 1-40 just fine, you can reach light 280 or so off of marks/drops, but then it just gets obnoxious. Hours of Strikes seems to be the only way to get anywhere significant in terms of gear, and even that is no guarantee. On top of that, I am forced to rely entirely upon weapons in Crucible that are not that great compared to guns such as Mida, Doctrine, Last Word, etc. and of course, at this point, I have no easy way of acquiring these weapons. Were exotics, such as Last Word, still dropping in Crucible I wouldn't have as much of an issue, but they don't, so I have to rely on Nightfalls, Weekly Crucible(once I finish the freaking quest), and Xur. Nightfalls are currently extremely difficult for me, however, and very few people seem to want to help out. Also, the Raid. No one wants a sub 300 to do even Normal mode at this point, so thanks Bungie for providing no easy way to reach 300+ beyond the raid. Oh and thanks for providing no means to find people to do it with. The Division has you beat on that point, that's for sure. Point is, with how difficult it is to make progress in this game short of hoping that someone will carry you through end game content, Bungie is effectively, in my opinion, scaring off new players. If I were just starting out, no experience whatsoever and being paired in Crucible with people who have been playing a lot longer with guns that are a lot better, I would quit. It wouldn't be worth the time honestly, it's just too much work to get on par with everyone else. I'm not quitting, of course, but I am certainly frustrated. Just seems a bit too much for the newbie, especially without someone to help them.

As much as I loathe the anti-consumer bullshittery that Bungie has pulled with any and all year 1 players who didn't buy TTK ... after 'coming back' recently (due to morbid curiosity and questionable blood alcohol levels) - I have to say that I am also genuinely sad for any "new" players after what I've experienced. The simplest way to sum up so much of it - at least to any year 1 player - is landing in The Steppes. The first area you start in when 'the game proper' begins. In year 1 it was reasonably alive with enemies. Even a high-level player could use it to farm, gain experience ... or just go crazy trying out new weapons and gear. Now you go there ... and you're more likely to be attacked by boredom or tumbleweeds. And don't even get me started on how a "loot chest" now equates (99.44% of the time) to "Oh yay ... more planetary materials ... end statement". Bungie royally screwed-over those who didn't buy TTK (despite what so many apologists may still claim) ... but they also royally screwed over those who DID buy TTK - be they upgraders, newcomers ... or console conversionists like yourself. It's like paying protection money to the mob ... and they still mess up your store. EDIT: typos
