TL;DR: Out of 100 Crucible matches where I used a Three of Coins, I received 21 Exotic Engrams. That’s one Engram for every 5 (4.76 rounded up) Three of Coins. Challenge to the Community: Buy any number of ToC and keep track of your rewards (and the game mode you’re playing). Curious how my experience compares with yours. Looking at the Forums, it seems like the drop rate is much lower in PvE than PvP, but I’d like to have more real numbers to apply to the comparison.
There is a fair amount of discussion about the reward rate from Three of Coins, so I decided to conduct an experiment of my own. On Friday, I bought 100 ToC and jumped into the Crucible. Using my 313 Titan, I played a mix of Skirmish, Clash, and Control (didn’t notice any difference in drop rate among PvP modes). Finished my 100th match last night. After using one ToC prior to each match, here are my results:
I received 21 Exotic Engrams; one after the 5th, 10th, 13th, 14th, 16th, 21st, 27th, 37th, 38th, 45th, 55th, 59th, 65th, 68th, 72nd, 78th, 83rd, 89th, 91st, 96th, and 100th matches. On average, this comes out to 1 Engram for every 4.76 ToC; so about every five matches (though notice the range in number of matches before a drop is 1 to 10). At 7 Strange Coins per 5 ToC, my results translate into approximately 7 Strange Coins per Exotic reward. (Thanks to NeverSeparate for catching my brain fart regarding the number of Strange Coins per Exotic reward. The post has been edited accordingly.)
From these Engrams, I received 5 heavy weapons, 4 helmets, 4 gauntlets, 3 boots, 2 chest pieces, 2 special weapons, and 1 primary weapon.
All of my Engrams decoded into 310 Exotics except for one set of 290 No Backup Plans. They are as follows (in the order received): Red Death, Taikonaut, Graviton Forfeit, Truth, Hereafter, Dragonsbreath, Plan C, ATS/8 Tarantella, Helm of Saint 14, Peregrine Greaves, No Backup Plans, Thunderlord, The Ram, Dragonsbreath, Super Good Advice, Ruin Wings, Immolation Fists, Peregrine Greaves, Peregrine Greaves, Ruin Wings, and Twilight Garrision (Yes. On the 100th ToC!).
Of the Exotics I received, I already owned all but Super Good Advice (though had it in Y1), ATS/8 Tarantella, and Twilight Garrison.
So, what should we do with this information? Compare it! My mission for you – should you choose to accept it – is to buy as many ToC as you like (the more, the better statistically), and keep track of your drops and the game mode you’re playing. From what I’ve read around the forums, it sounds like the reward rate in PvE may be much lower than 1 Exotic for every 5 ToC.
Edit: If you're on the Xbone, feel free to add me (CarnivalLaw). I'd be happy to run along with you as you investigate your own ToC drop rate.
Incidentally, I also kept track of Legendary rewards through the 100 matches. I received 4 Eyasluna, 3 Titan Marks, 1 Spare Change .25, 1 Party Crasher +1, and 1 Split Shifter Pro. On average, that’s a reward every 10 matches.
Out of all the matches I played, I saw 1 Red Spectre drop for ANYBODY (including the other team). Unicorn gun.

Damn man. Your coffer is fully loaded.

My experiment: If I buy 20 I get two-three exotics. If I get 3oC as a reward, I don't get piss.

6 AntwortenThis is good information. But I wanted to comment on my own experiences. When I use 3oC while farming Taken Zealots, the drop rate appears roughly 1/10. Out of 50 3oC used over 3 days farming, I got a whole 5 exotics, 3 were the exact same exotic (gauntlets- Don't Touch Me). While running 12 strikes in the legacy playlist with three clan members, we all got 2 exotics each. We got an exotic roughly 1/6 strikes. In PVP, I used them across 20 matches in 2 days and got a whole wopping 1 exotic. Roughly 1/20 chance. My conclusion is that 3oC drop rates are really MUCH lower than they should be in area's outside of the strike playlist. By running strikes, you have what appears to be upwards of 20% chance for an exotic to drop (if you exclude strikes with non-ultra bosses like Omnigul, Flayers). My guess is that the reason 3oC are most effective in strikes is due to interaction with the strike loot buff, as we stayed in matchmaking the entire time while running strikes. My theory is that the 3oC actually puts the exotic engram on the loot table of possible things that can drop, BUT it is actually the RNG that determines whether you get that drop. The RNG stacks in your favor when running strikes due to the loot buff, but you have no such assistance when farming taken zealots or playing PVP.

1 AntwortenJust finished a Clash match. Top and near bottom players both got Red Spectre. One was low 280's and the other was 290. I got a shotgun, but damn! Unicorn Alert!

1 AntwortenOnce you are over 310 it doesn't really matter what the the drop rate is, you'll have enough strange coins to just be popping toc like candy anyway. And soon you will be swimming in useless 310 exotics. You're not likely to ever have enough materials to upgrade all your exotics to 320 and you're never going to use most of them because of the 3% per light point dropoff in damage, thats 30% between a 310 and 320 weapon which pretty much cancels out the value of any exotic perk today. Which means sadly you will only upgrade a very limited favorite set of gear to 320 and be using that all the time. And 1 in 5 seems about right with approx 15 minute cooldown.

1 AntwortenBearbeitet von Nick85er: 3/16/2016 5:15:21 PMbut that's why its called a 3 of Coins as opposed to an Eight of Diamonds. duh. Not that I disagree with you - it's just that this item is part of Bungie's sh1tty experiment about building psychological dependence... and has nothing to do with the price of milk in New Zealand.

5 AntwortenI thought those legendary weapons were year 1 only

1 AntwortenThought I'd throw in my observations. My 3oC experience is PvE. Tried consistently on all three toons in Crimson Doubles and had no drops. Early on in PvE I tried doing multiple 3oC and didn't get a drop. Read that that was not how stacking worked and tried using them one at a time and things started dropping. I have never had farming work (same boss over and over). Spent 3 hrs in The Divide and had Darnu work once. Went to the Divide again and when Darnu dropped one left for Rocketyard and got another from that boss (in well under 15min). So I think varying the boss might help. It also doesn't seem to help if the boss is in another area. Drakis doesn't drop twice if Shattered Coast and Ishtar Cliffs. Neither will true Blighted Descendant at Ember Caves and the Citadel. But mix them up and I have gotten back-to-back drops. Not consistently but on occasion... In my experience the longer there 3oC is active seems to help. I eat 3oC when putting characters away and am apt to get a drop first time the following day. Also, in my experience, damage dealt does not increase drop chance. Can't count how many times I've melted a boss away with 10-12 rockets while others were plinking away with an AR and i got nada, they got yellow. But kill shot may be viable, at least a half a dozen have dropped when I arrived in time to deliver the killing blow - a lot of times my only shot on the boss as I had just arrived. As to light level of the drop. If something that I already have lower than 310 (on used character or in vault) then it decodes as 290. But if character used and vault are 310 on what's dropped it decodes as 310. So I end up swapping stuff around to maximize it. (thank heavens for character-to-character transfers in app. makes this less cumbersome) Oh, and all my characters are 308-309 when visiting Rahool.(Master Ives is a scam artist IMHO) so I don't necessarily buy the 310 and above to get a 310. Anyway, that's what I have experienced. YMMV. IIMHO, just the inconsistencies on observed behavior and what people have been reporting would indicate there is a significant RNGesus aspect. I just wish we knew how they worked so we could maximize possibilities vs the crap shoot we have currently.

2 Antworten4 eyaslunas? I'm yet to find 1 never mind 4!

1 AntwortenA similar test was done on reddit, killing ultras. Pretty much identical results. I am convinced the average is 1/5.

4 AntwortenBearbeitet von Willakkuma: 3/15/2016 12:08:23 AMI've had great success dropping 3coin on pvp for quite a while. I don't have stats but I can confirm a lot of great 310 drops including Jade Rabbit, Truth, various body armor......the list goes on. Sometimes they come in sub-310. I have learned the probability for a 310 or any drop at all for that matter is much greater dropping 25-30 at once. It's worth it. Engrams from xur are expensive and there's no guarantee what you'll get. I've received these drops playing normal crucible matches like Control, Trials matches, and IB matches. I spent over 100 3coin in small increments during the last IB just to see how it would go and the results were terrible. During that tournament via 3coin I got a 310+ drop during lvl 1, and another 310 after lvl 5. Whiffed on everything in between. Again, this was placing small amounts. My regular leveling up tournament drops were outstanding though, even better than the 3coin bets. Edit to add: This with my hunter that can play at 312.

13 AntwortenEh, nothing really special. Its all RNG. Before they were nerf'ed I looted Draksis out of 260 3oC I got 118 engrams. The drop rates have been turned into nothing. One person's RNG really can't be compared to another ones to try and figure out a "system" to use. Should use strange coins to get heavy to up faction rep, 3oC is really a waste now a days.

5 Antwortenpeople think that if you do 1 damage to an ultra with a 3 of coins on, it should guarantee an exotic, but here's what helps you get one: *final hit bonus *doing the most damage *having it be the final ultra of the strike *Being alive when the boss dies *killing the ultra once per reset *higher level ultras have a better chance of dropping exotics not all ultras drop engrams, therefor eliminating the possibility of getting an exotic, and some just don't drop exotics.

5 AntwortenMight as well start stock piling. A friend told me that he knew a guy that had like 200 ToC, used a 100 on one boss and got 5 engrams

1 AntwortenHonestly I don't see the point of wasting coins anymore when the light level and new gear will be dropping soon
