Hello Community! Today I want to discuss the lovely Fallout 4, why its GOTY and why, at the same time, it's not amazing. What do you think? Do you think Fallout 4 is GOTY? If so, is it as amazing as it's made out to be?
Why Fallout 4 is Game of the Year
A massive open world
-Bethesda made one of the largest and detailed open worlds of the year. With little lore findings hidden all over the place that really peak the interest of any player.
The content
-If we can agree on nothing else, it's that Fallout 4 gives he player the most content on disc of any game in 2015. At any given moment, the player can have upwards of 6 quest active, all with multiple steps to them. This keeps the player entertained for an ungodly number of hours.
Customization
-The way you can shape your player's face is uncanny, to say the least. It's so deep that players have copied real people's faces and crafted them into the game. Not only that, but the way you speak in dialogue can help you to shape your player's personality as well as the choices you make.
The weapons
-There are a number of different weapons in the game and most, if not all feel different in their own way. Add that in with the mod system and you have yourself an almost unending pool of different weapons you can suit to your playstyle.
Why Fallout 4 isn't amazing
The graphics
-The graphics are just almost embarrassing for a current gen game. Pixels can be seen on just about any surface and really could take the immersion factor out a peg.
Combat is stale
-All the enemies in fallout 4 are basically bullet sponges. They don't seem to incorporate interesting tactics into their combat nor really act different from each other. A raider and a Super mutant will behave the exact same way in combat, with the only variation between a Super mutant, Raider and Gunner's behavior is the Super Mutant suicider. One variation among three factions is unacceptable.
The animals are a different story, they seem varied in their approach to combat.
One thing I do find incredibly annoying is when you come across a legendary enemy and they'd inexplicably "mutate" and regain all of their health. I find this to be lazy programming and absolutely infuriating to deal with.
The companion logarithm
-My companion goes missing, a lot and is streaky when it comes to usefulness in battle. Not to mention, they are extremely judgemental. I understand they have their likes and dislikes, but almost every move is scrutinized by my companion.
The glitches
-There are a number of bugs that occur in Fallout 4. While none of them appear to be game breaking, it's very disappointing that a current generation AAA game like Fallout 4 has this many glitches.
The main story isn't amazing
-Fallout 4's main story isn't bad, but it isn't Gold either. I often forget that my avatar is tracking down her son in the first place. Not to mention, she seems unphased by the death of her husband outside of a few lines. The only remarkable thing about it is its twist at the end but the events leading up to it are frankly uninteresting.
The dialogue
-Dialogue in Fallout 4 rarely changes the outcome of a situation. It's cool when it does but these moments are few and far in between. In most cases, anything you say will result in the same outcome, which is disappointing.
Conclusion
For the masses, Fallout 4 is the Game of the Year. With that being said though, I feel it's one of the weakest GOTY in some time. What do you think? Do you think Fallout 4 is GOTY? If so, is it as amazing as it's made out to be?

28 AntwortenI don't understand the hate on Fallout 4's graphics. I think it looks great for a Fallout game. It has a good 1950s feel to it.
