Auto rifles basically deal the same damage but with horrible burst damage (requiring constant aiming and movement prediction) and WAY less range. So they require more skill but end up performing worse. HOWEVER, a max RoF max stability AR with high caliber rounds would be a monster. But none are possible. So what are the top tier weapons? In the opinion of OP top tier meta man Darches, they are...
Silimar's Wrath (II) - with OAS and H.C. rounds, it's OK and balanced (no better than any PR). Forge for the perks of your dreams (I got Icarus)! Rifled Barrel seems to have little effect on damage drop-off. Obviously you can't use this in ToO or IB :(
Arminius-D - with Counterbalance and H.C. rounds, it actually wins most engagements if you can stay on target (not feasible).
Arminius-D - with Counterbalance and Braced Frame it becomes a controllable beast with top-notch bodyshot DPS. Might actually be good. Need to obtain/test... ToO AR will work the same way and can roll with the same ideal perks.
Medium RoF pulse rifles have a 1st class bodyshot TTK and unreliable but insane headshot TTK. Near hand cannon levels of burst damage, near scout rifle range, middle of the pack zoom... This weapon is versatile and powerful, excellent in all situations. Nirwen's Mercy FTW (for regular crucible I use a Hopscotch Pilgrim with OAS, Braced Frame, Feeding Frenzy, Reactive Reload >:).
Low RoF pulse rifles don't really exist. There's a couple theoretical ones though.
Spare Change.25 - It MUST have OAS, Hand-laid Stock, Counterbalance, and Headseeker. Could be godly in the right hands, or at least competitive. Probably doesn't exist.
Lyudmilla-D - Similar perks as above will yield a similar (though probably worse) PR.
Low RoF scout rifles can cross-map kill in 3 headshots (very quick!) 4 bodyshots (kinda quick, requires low armor OR explosive rounds) or 5 bodyshots (slow). Require skill and long-range engagements to use effectively. Good for campers?
Exotics to consider...
The Last Word - Ultimate primary up close. But very restricted and often loses to shotguns due to it's shitty accuracy.
Hawkmoon - Barely survived HC nerf, an OK weapon overall. Slightly shitty accuracy.
Red Death - Reliable 2-headburst kill on a medium RoF pulse, as well as various meta perks. Shitty accuracy makes the 2-burst kind of redundant though. It's more of a close-mid range AR that fire's in bursts. At least it's function matches the frame. Still, extra punch ensures your enemies don't survive by a sliver of HP.
Bad Juju - CHARGE THAT SUPER! JUST... DO IT!
No Land Beyond - Might it be able to still 1-shot people in ToO/IB? Might you be that specially gifted player? If not, then ignore this.
Also, a couple people have annihilated me and others in PvP with some AR's like Zhalo Supercell, seemingly landing nothing a perfect stream of headshots EVERY TIME even at mid-range. I mean, there's no other way I could die so fast. The flinching was insane despite those AR's not having H.C. rounds. You might flinch more from headshots. I'm gonna assume they were using aimbots of some sort. It's also possible that after killing 100k people (the one guy had at least that many kills) with AR's you'd become used to the tracing and recoil. Either way... WTF...

Answering chord and questing beast with right perks can have absurd range to. Lucky not too many around. Playing rift on frontier we get spark and go towards them. Hunter camping invisibly by the door kills us before we get off bridge. Expected sniper, scout or pulse but nope it was answering chord. Year 2 suros sometimes has good range but rather inconsistent.

Nice post. You left out godsaw though. Is zhalo really viable? I just might try it for crucible.
-
I have one for you: Zarinaea-D. This auto rifle of mine has Persistence, Danger Close and Smallbore. Yup, gunsmith order. The biggest problem with this weapon is that it's low impact makes the time to kill less than ideal in the Crucible. However once Persistence starts to take full effect, coupled with the stability provided by Smallbore, it can easily mow down charging shotgunners and makes it hell for snipers to aim properly.

Nice. Lyudmila with the right perks is a monster though. I've been reliably two-bursting. RNG drop from gunsmith rank package. Army of One (meh) Hand Laid Stock (it doesn't need all of that range) Feeding Frenzy (it really needs that reload perk). Counter balance instead of AoO would have been nice to counteract that slight kick to the left but this is a gun I use in pretty much all situations. PvP or PvE. It's my highest primary at 316.
-
I swear by my Lyudmila use it in PvP and PvE. Crowd control hand laid and spray and play. Out gun all the high rate of fire pulses with it. Once you get use to that extra recoil with the 4th shot in the pulse you can easily two pulse kill
-
How much damage does CC add? I'm curious. Nice roll though. Hand Laid is awesome for this gun. Only takes away from its already monster range. And the reload perk is pretty much necessary. The base reload sucks haha

You need to post things everyday so I can read something intelligent once and awhile.

Good analysis, thanks. I have an Arminius-D with the focus fire perk that is a joy to use. Seriously considering infusing it for a go in the next close quarters Trials.

Bearbeitet von Darches: 11/15/2015 10:07:24 PMFocus Fire turns a fast firing AR into an average firing AR with a massive magazine. Stability isn't ideal but perhaps firing nonstop is your cup of tea :D It doesn't work so well on the other AR's.

Well, it does have Braced Frame. Only a 12 round penalty for a big boost in stability.
