The One-Hit-Kill Without Skill

This is not a 'this needs a nerf' type thread, this is me talking about my experience and what that means for me. Destiny has a bunch of one-hit-kill options for every subclass and several weapon types. Most of them make sense to me. For instance, Shoulder Charge. Yes, it's annoying to be killed by it at first, but then you realize they only have a small timeframe to get the charge in and you can kill them whilst charging at you. Sniper headshot. Yeah, it can happen really quick, but they need to hit an exact point on your Guardian and any minor damage they take while aiming will flinch them to such a degree that headshots are impossible unless you are lucky. But then, there are the ones I don't get. Actually, it just is the one. Shotguns. The only drawback a shotgun has is the range. It has to be close quarters. But 99% of maps are close quarters maps and you will be in close quarters whether you want to be or not. Even when I stick to the sides of a room, to the back walls and see a shotgunner, they charge me. I aim, shoot. Headshot. Let my gun restabalize, shoot again. Anothet headshot. They tank both hits and kill me. The hits they take don't falter their aim like a sniper would, and even if it did, it doesn't matter, because hitting me anywhere kills me instantly. And that is a problem to me. Especially the part where it is instant. Taken King introduced Swords. They are great fun, but they require heavy ammo. They are close quarters only and initiating an attack still requires an animation to complete (and fully complete at that) before a kill happens. Shotguns are instantanous. This results in me going up against a shotgunner with a heavy weapon and losing. He can pull the trigger and I will die, meanwhile I have to initiate a strike giving him a second to react with insta-kill ability. When a special weapon is more powerful than a heavy weapon, even more red flags are raised for me. The Chaperone is a gun I acquired early and use from time to time. I like it so much because it is what I think shotguns should be. It's essentially a very close range sniper rifle. I guess as a sniper I am biased towards this gun, but still. Even at face to face range a bodyshot doesn't kill someone. You need to aim, you need to get that headshot. Where all this comes down to for me, is that I think shotguns are in a place to punish anyone who wants to play with skill and/or learn the game. The only drawback of shotguns currently, range, is mitigated by the fact that you always are in the range you need to be. It does not require skill, it does not require map control, it does not require heavy ammo, it does falter under heavy fire. The instant kill is always there. In all this debate around 'Sunbreakers are OP' and 'Thorn used to be OP' and 'Last Word is OP' en all the like; I keep thinking, the true scrub weapon is and has been shotguns all along. It doesn't ask you to do anything but get close, which you always will be. I definitely think shotguns need a huge nerf, I know it will not happen though and I know no one will agree with me. Primairily because people have a lot of succes with shotguns (and why wouldn't you) and don't want that to change so they have to fall back on gun skill. In my perfect world, shotguns would not be able to one shot. You want to get close? It should be risk reward. You can do massive damage up close, but you need to finish the job. You can't get away with 'I have this weapon so I win'. They should do the same damage as a sniper rifle. That is severe bodyshot damage, one shot headshot damage. Falter under fire. That's my experience anyway. Whenever I get killed by a shotgun while I opened fire first and didn't mis a shot I can't help but think it was super cheap. It makes PvP unbearable sometimes for me. I know it won't change. I know almost no one will agree, just wanted to share. I hope that even shotgun users can at least see it from my point of view. Thanks for reading.
