That's not really a good choice you farm for exotics while playing the heroic vanguard strikes you'll get better rewards for playing longer. You won't get anything good from playing story mission. Maybe the very rare purple but the strike playlist is a hell of a lot better then playing story for engrams.

You can keep the checkpoint and dont have to repeat the mission each time... i have raid gear so i dont need ANY legendaries or rares from heroic strikes. I just need exotic engrams.

Pretty Bungie patched it in a way so they know your farming story bosses and will decrease the amount of exotics you get but that's just my thoughts.

Its ambiguous as stated in the op. I was hoping a forum moderator could help or maybe someone that has done actual testing.
