I'm going to start off by saying, yes I'm getting HoW. I have the expansion pass.
I am disappointed at no Raid, but interested and excited to see what Prison of Elders holds for us PvE centric players.
I am looking forward to what the HoW missions have in store.
My concern is simply: "what exactly am I paying for?"
Reforge weapons: Available to all
New level cap: Available to all
New Social Area: Available to all
New armour/weapons: Available to all
You get the idea.
The same happened with TDB. "Check all this stuff out that is being released with The Dark Below*"
*Most of it is available to people who don't pay anything anyway but it releases at the same time so we're calling it part of the bundle
Lets have a look at TDB:
New Story missions (paid)
New Bounties (paid)
New Raid (paid)
New PvP maps (paid)
New armour (free)
New weapons (free)
New materials (free)
New level cap (free)
New exotic upgrade system (free)
(I'm sure there's more)
So far on HoW:
New Story Missions (paid)
New Bounties[?] (paid) [they kinda ignored that question]
New PvP Activity (paid)
New PvE Activity (paid)
New reforge system (free)
New weapon upgrade system (free)
New weapons (free)
New armour (free)
New materials (free)
New material exchange system (free)
New Social Area (free)
(Again, I'm sure there's more)
So what am I paying £20 for exactly? (Ok, technically £17.50 since the pass was £35).
One of Destiny's biggest issues from release was the lack of content, and I applaud Bungie for trying to address that by putting out more stuff for everyone. But does it have to be at the cost of paying customers?
The recurring negative point in reviews for 'The Dark Below' was "lack of content". Perhaps if it wasn't nearly 50% of the games cost that wouldn't have been an issue. Or if more content had been released to people who are paying for it instead of advertising a robust package stuffed to the brim with freebies.
I worry that HoW is going down the same route. Advertise a truckload of new stuff that you get with HoW release, then release everything but the core fundamentals to anyone with the game, regardless of DLC purchase.
When I buy a nationwide bus ticket that allows me free travel anywhere within a 500 mile radius, I don't expect to hear that the first 400 miles is free to anyone anyways.
TL/DR: Bungie is advertising this apparently big expansion. But if you strip away all the free stuff, I just don't feel I'm actually getting my moneys worth. I agree that a lot of the free additions should be free, but to advertise them as part of the paid expansion is just dishonest padding to make it seem like we're getting more than we actually are.
Similar to buying a packet of crisps, and opening it to see that the top 3/4 is actually just air.
Share your thoughts.
I AM NOT SAYING THAT THE FREE STUFF SHOULD BE REMOVED OR MADE TO BE PAID FOR
EDIT1: Spellcheck
EDIT2: For people who keep saying time played = value for money.
I was in Florida a little over a 2 Months ago. There's a place there, near Orlando, called 'The Old Town', or 'Fun Spot USA'. They have various rides there which are fun but the two that stand out are the 'SkyCoaster' and the 'Slingshot'
The SkyCoaster cost $45 approximately and lasts 4 minutes from the point you get strapped in.
The Slingshot is roughly $40 and lasts about 3 minutes from the point you get strapped in.
So a total cost of $85 provided me with entertainment for a little under 10 minutes. I'd still gladly pay that again because they were exceedingly fun and worth my money.
If total playtime equals value for money, then the next hit release should be set in a target range with one objective, 'shoot a million bullets to win'. You only get a 6-shooter revolver to do so.
Cost of the game £50. Time played to completion ought to be around 75 hours after you factor in the realistic reload time and the bullet fetching mini game. But hey, that's only 50p per hour right? Totally worth it.
1 AntwortenNot all of the weapons and armor is free

Vendor gear should have stayed at 27 light, and you had to level up through Raids/Arena activities.

The big issue that console players have over this is the fact that much of the content is given to everyone. However if we look at most mmos with expansions, it's the same thing. Everybody gets changes to economy and new paths to level stuff. Max level is increased for all players. Many areas are made available to all players. This is what is given. But those are simply additions made to this evolving game. They come in addition to the DLC, but they are not a part of the DLC. What you are paying for is: story missions, a new strike (probably 2 on PlayStation), access to trials of osiris, 3 new PvP maps. And Prison of Elders. This is what you get exclusively for paying. Depending on the length and amount of story missions and how good prison of elders is, it could equal up to a $20 value by itself. Chances are it does not for many people however. There is one other factor that people do not think about that you are paying for: early access and ease of access. Yes, everybody can hit the new max level. However, aquiring aetheric light will be extremely rare outside of PoE. Sure, eventually players without the DLC can reach level 34, but the amount of effort that they have to put in will be substantial compared to those who have the DLC. With the arena, you Will have a decent chance to get aetheric light each week, and you also get one more way in which to get it to drop than those without the DLC (trials). So in esscence, you are paying for the ease of leveling. Players with the DLC will also be the only ones who can aquire gear that is already level 34. Everybody else will be required to work for it much more. By having the DLC, you will be able to participate in certain weeklies, dailies and nightfalls whereas those without it will be unable to participate in them. There are many other things I could add. The point being if you take all the factors of having the DLC, it is almost certainly a worthwhile $20 investment. The deciding factor will be prison of elders. When we learn more about it, we can decide whether or not it's worth the price. Until then, what we have is an easy $12-$15.

2 AntwortenBearbeitet von Un1337ninj4: 5/1/2015 1:59:21 PMAdd in: New Strike Playlist that will probably like a new Roc. (Do you remember how many Legendaries you got from your first Rocs?) More Lore, since we get the cards we're going to be the only ones who can read the Ghosts outside of the glitch-able Terminus ones. Most of the Queen's Wrath bounties won't be available to non-buyers, including any farming methods the new missions entail. We get Lord of Wolves! All PoE gear will remain as-such. More than likely includes the Wire Rifle and Shock Pistol along with those Blue weapons.

Bump. Good point you brought uo
-
3 AntwortenYou're paying for new maps new weapons new armor trials of osiris and prison of elders. If you don't buy the dlc what incentive do you have to reach max level? Running VoG or anything else at level 34 will be pointless
-
2 AntwortenYou are talking about free weapons and armor but people without the DLC can't get all weapons and armor.
-
1 AntwortenI see what you're saying. It seems like we could have been just as happy without paying for the dlc. And especially if you don't play pvp. I'm not exactly mad there's a lot of free stuff but hopefully the missions and PoE is worth the payment. I plan on playing in the trials because the gear looks good and worth the try but that's not a selling point for anyone on the edge. If i didn't have it and was on the fence I'd pass at this point.

3 AntwortenI feel like they are making this content as a way to still keep people without the DLCs from being completely booted from the game. Which is a lot better than forcing people to pay for a DLC to keep enjoying the game. In addition to that, Bungie will probably raise the level for nightfalls, and add another strike playlist. Iron banner will be filled up with level 34s and 365 attacks, which would completely boot out anybody that was trapped inside OG Destiny.
Raising the level for nightfalls and such are based on what they did for The Dark Below
3 AntwortenThe problem is that players complain about being locked out of endgame because they don't want to o buy the expansion. Now the problem is solves. You can hit max level and not have to worry about buying the dlc. What do you pay for? Story Prison of elders and the loot drops from within. If you don't buy the expansion then you get no loot dropped in the prison of elders. Trials of Osiris A strike Access to the Queens missions which has some pretty cool gear and shaders. Like eris, she will most likely only be accessed by house of wolves. Upkeep of the dlc. They promised a new experience every week in the prison of elders. Though I think it might just be a different burn and buffs and debuffs. Nightfall when is for the expansion Xur when he sells expansion exotics While that seems like a small amount, think of how this is compared to borderlands. Each borderlands expansion cost me $10. Each expansion was beaten within a couple of hours. Sure there is lots of loot but no good loot dropped for me. So I think for the amount of content being released, it is well worth the money. If it is not worth the money, they won't get my money for comet.
-
3 AntwortenI did mention that to a few buds. Other than some SORELY needs fixes (that should have been patched months ago), they really didn't add anything other than a few story and the new mode. That's why I think this delayed raid should not be charged or added to Comet. They packaged Reef with HOW but that was clearly a diversionary tactic as it could have been released anytime as it's available to all. Instead they are taking credit for needed game fixes as DLC content.

1 AntwortenYou paid 20 pounds/dollars/whatever to help keep the servers running and keep Destiny profitable so Activi$ion forsnt turn out the lights
-
1 AntwortenYeah maybe. But upgrading stuff and being 34 will be much harder without DLC. You will just have to get lucky with NF because getting it from PoE won't be possible. Also by now who doesn't have the DLC?
-
1 AntwortenI'm fine with paying for just multiplayer maps and endgame activities. Compared to other games where you would pay a similar amount and receive just 3 multiplayer maps, this seems pretty fair. The free stuff is just a bonus.
-
2 AntwortenI've been saying this since TDB dropped, the Marketing & PR departments over at Bungie are absolutely atrocious. They constantly sugarcoat things instead of simply being honest.
-
3 AntwortenSome people can't afford the dlc right away. At least this way they can make some progress in the mean time. They will be locked out of nightfalls and heroics when a HoW strike is active. They need away to still be able to play. *I bought the season pass*
-
1 AntwortenIt's more like free snacks on a flight. If you pay you can get the flight. If you don't you just get the free snacks while sitting in an airport. The activities are what we're buying. The "flight".
-
4 AntwortenIm just confused on how are we going to get them i mean im not wasting my marks on vendor armor i want buy weapons and stuff, i mean will i have to fully max a set of vendor armor JUST so i can reach max light level to actually get ethereal light so i can ascend my favorite armor... Its kinda bullshit, i kinda hope they make it easy to ethereal light
-
2 AntwortenProbably not important but I predict in recruitment hard vog or normal ce 34 only with 365 ghorn trust me it will show up
-
1 AntwortenIt's going to be extremely difficult for anyone without the DLC to upgrade any of their gear, because they won't be able to access PoE or Trials of Osiris. While it is theoretically possible they could get the upgrade mats from a Nightfall (assuming they don't periodically get locked out like Omniguhl), I wouldn't bet on it.
-
1 AntwortenLuke i get what you're saying and I agree 100%, bungie are making out that we get all this in our dlc but we don't, not sure why 95% of the people replying can't see this.
-
2 AntwortenI'm buying it because I'm not broke......same as why I wouldn't create a thread such as this.
-
1 AntwortenI think it's funny that people don't think new story, strike, PvP maps, prison of elders and Osiris is worth $20. That's more than 90% of what any other dlc gives you. The biggest problem with this community is that everyone is focused on how something affects other people. If xur sold gally, then OTHER PEOPLE could have this gun that I've loved for 3 months, if they don't buy the dlc, they'll still be able to play this??? Stop worrying about everyone else, and worry about you.
