"Destiny's fact sheet mentions the city, the social space players will use to refuel, repair, and rearm before going out on their next adventure, will be played in third-person."

The bit that caught my eye was that we can repair something.
If it is our ship, then maybe ship combat will be in the game?
If it is our armour/weapons, then does that mean they can break if not repaired?
Do you want weapons to have durability?

I would be okay with weapons durability, as long as damage rendering them unusable wouldn't develop too frequently. My only other limitation would be that weapons shouldn't break permanently, i.e. I get a kick-ass rare gun, it breaks permanently, and now it's a club.

3 RepliesI wouldn't mind at all. Adds a more realistic flavor. As long as the frequency of the necessity isn't unrealistic, as well as repair costs, then it would all come down to basic money management. Degradation of armor, guns, ships, etc., would only serve as a tool to immerse the player by putting you in the position to have care for and take care of the things that protect your very well being. You only get as much as you put in and if you put in nothing you get nothing.

1 ReplyI hope its ship repair not weapons and armour because any other game I've played with durability as a game function has always drained my funds and made me miss chances at buying new gear and upgrades.

I think that if your weapons, armor, or ship are damaged it should show the wear and tear on the actual object, such as scratches and scuffs or even bullet holes or dents.

Something I thought would be cool: reloading rounds. In the silver dollar drawing board, something called a catch was mentioned. A catch is an attachment you can put on your weapon that would catch the spent shells and put them in a container. I couldn't actually think of a productive reason to use this attachment unless you could reload the shells and save a little bit of money that you would have spent on a few rounds.

1 ReplyWould love both. Imagine, you're in a cave on Venus.. You've been fighting for an hour to get to the end. All of a sudden a giant killer slug pops up out of the ground. You aim for the thing's huge eyeballs when all of a sudden, click. Your assault rifle jams. "Shit, I should've repaired before I came out." But you didnt. Now in the face of certain death, you must use your Silver Dollar Mk. 35 to get up close to the beast and do some real hero work. You're forced to improvise. I like it.

1 ReplyI hate when weapons have durability

I don't mind ship repair, but no way should there be weapon/armour degrading. It's annoying and detracts from the experience.

NO...NO....HELL TO THE BLAMMING NO Seriously I despise equipment decay I am not against it per se mind you but I am utterly OCD about it and it has ruined many games I liked (for me) like Diablo 2, Oblivion and Fallout 3

1 ReplyI feel like durability wouldn't be all that bad. As long as it doesn't fall to the level of Far Cry 2. I know that it is set in a very sci-fi future environment, but wear and tear is likely to happen, especially when what you're facing has the same level tech. Now the item breaking, I think if they were to have that occur, it would become unusable, but only until you had it repaired. Immersive yet annoying sure, but I'm sure if they had it, they would also have stuff such as repair kits or what have you. Supplies that could be carried in a pack for just such an occasion.

If guns jam in this game... I dont want another Far cry 2

The repair bit is almost certainly more for fictional flavor than a system. Do you think the Sparrows or your spaceships will run out of Space Gas too? smh -
I already went through enough in Far Cry 2. No more...NO MORE!

2 RepliesWell now armor breaking doesn't really sound sci-fi to me. Think about it, 500 years from now, will we still be mass producing weaponry that'll just jam or brake? We can already create armor that can take handgun fire (not high cal. magnums, but like 9mm and under) so that's bound to evolve as well. And especially since we'll be the guardians of the city, we should be getting the best of the best gear. And even today's guns can be made to last a hundred years (rustfree-AK-47/KH2002 etc). Soo on account of the realism argument, I must pledge allegiance to the opposition of weapons and armor with durability. Be brave

3 RepliesEdited by Banned Tyger: 7/20/2013 5:27:43 PMI have durability for guns in games. It's so unrealistic. If you clean your guns and take care of them (like any futuristic guardian/soldier would) they would last ages. Hell my uncle still has a WWII soviet pistol that fires great! Edit: hate not have

1 ReplyWeapons with durability would suck. I hope it would only be with ships. I also think the fact that u need to repair your ships infers that combat in space would take damage in battle
-
8 RepliesI would absolutely hate that it was in fallout which added a bit of survival into the game but destiny is a sci-fi fps mmo and guns breaking would make me want to get the game a whole lot less
-
I saw that too! I took it as ship repair but maybe weapons durability? I don't know, but very interesting wording
-
so much pointless speculation!

5 RepliesIf my weapons can break then that would add a whole level of immersion..... that I wouldn't be a fan of honestly. If the weapons didn't have a leveling system I'd be more for it. But if my weapon breaks after I've gotten it three fourths of the way down its tree I would have to play something else for a while.

1 ReplyI think they were just going for the alliteration?
-
I doubt it would be weapons, but spaceships and armour are fine with me
-
Nice find. I think it hints to space combat personally.
-
I think repair is referring to any vehicles, armor and weaponry shouldn't break, especially since Bungie is putting so much emphasis on the customization of guns and armor, and they will be tailored to how you play the game, so I find it unlikely that you could just lose it by using it to much.
