Because if Marathon is a Concord/Veilguard level failure, and Sony has to lower their profit projections even more
Sony execs and investors will make the same decision about Bungie as a whole, that EA made about Anthem, and vote not to fund it anymore, and eat the 3.6 Billion they put into it has a loss, and move on
Both Marathon and D2 will be eventually taken offline, like Anthem
I dont know alot about the innerworkings and finances of the game industry so I could be wrong. But it won't be good if Marathon flops, for D2 or Marathon or Bungie

1 ReplyAt this point I’m starting to careless if D2 dies, it’s a shell of what it was anyway just like Bungie. I’m not paying for and playing something I have absolutely no interest in just to help Bungie dig themselves out of the hole they made for themselves. All they had to do was make a D3, instead they decided to screw around with their money and their player base.
-
I don’t like what I’ve seen/read of Marathon. Bungie dug this hole themselves. It’s not my responsibility to help dig them out of it by supporting something I’m not interested in.
-
Why would I support a game i have no interest in that took time & resources away from the game i have been supporting since release? Nobody wanted that dumpster fire extraction shooter. These Muppets neglected this game for something many dont care for or want.
-
Extraction shooters aren’t my cup of tea so I have no interest.
-
I do still love destiny 2. I think they should focus on making more activities for it and setting it up in a good retirement with new content.
-
Rewarding bad maintenance and mediocrity with another sale is not going to fix anything. It's just going to be seen as consent to continue on the path they're already on.
-
Sorry, but hard disagree. If Marathon was specifically made for "not destiny players" then it has to stand on its own. Personally, there is very little that even interests me in the genre let alone Bungie's version of it. Win lose or draw Marathon has to be its own dog and win on its own merits

nahh. no thanks

Edited by Punisher of Porcelain™: 1/19/2026 7:12:54 PMBack to Warframe, I guess “Wallie, you can take me back now! I think Voruna’s forgiven me for the “fashion” by now...”

HELL NO! Absolutely NOT playing that garbage.
-
I'll support it if it's a good game, but none of what I've seen seems particularly captivating so I'll probably wait a month and see where it lands.
-
No, I really shouldn't. Whatever happens, whether 'Marathon' fails and leads to the demise of Bungie or it succeeds and brings about a new "golden age" for the studio isn't my responsibility. I play what I want to not out of a sense of unwavering loyalty to a studio but because I enjoy doing so and I'm not forcing myself to play a game that doesn't interest me. If my choice is truly instrumental in the end of 'Destiny' then I'll live with it. Other games exist.
-
No, sweatie, it doesn't work like that. I'm not responsable if Bungie products and managment have been as enjoyable as stepping on a Claymore landmine lately, specially during this Year of Prophecy. I ain't gonna force myself to support and like a niche genre that I despite. I ain't giving up a cent on a overdelayed Extraction shooter that will compete other titles that are free to play compared to it, while remembered to be accused of having stolen arts during first open alpha period, and with a studio that neglected pvp for years while pretending it was important.
-
Oh i cant wait until arrogant Bungie gets whats coming!!
-
Destiny is something I play in my down time and nothing really serious. I really don't want or need a different game to play especially in a genre I have no desire to play.
-
I’m guessing it probably won’t reach Sony’s expectations on its profits. But it will probably be successful enough to have it own niche player base.
-
If Marathon flopped it wouldn't be good. Then, it probably wouldn't be over... but time to worry. I've spent so much money on games I didn't like... What's 40? I do like it though. It shouldn't be called an extraction shooter... I think it can be more. It could scratch the Destiny Prequel itch... Curated Destiny in the modern age. The most interesting mechanic for me is the Heat system... for movement. In most games, movement is free... Sets the tone for mindful play at THE MOST fundamental level. I'm starting w Thief & Triage. And maybe I don't stick w it. But it's looks worth it for 40usd.

uh not sure, while i like it more than arc riders especially for the look that is not common, but at the end of the day is still an ES And since the d2 community is on the R side they will talk about the anti-cheat when every player fully know that cheaters can't be stopped In the end all player wished sony and carboy never pushed for marathon
-
1 ReplySony not interesting in Marathon, as player no one going to support it, knowing cheater going to ruin it. BUNGIE have got any of resources keep on top BattleEyes or any of other engine to keep up. So dont expect anyone one to support it. Knowing high change going to flop, sony will not provide anything.
-
Not a chance Hate extraction shooters and it's bungle that has threatened D2 by forgetting that D2 was their money maker. Now they pay little attention to it because they think marathon will become what D2 was. They are deluded
-
What a horrible take. Nobody should be forced by a Studio to pay for something they don't want to play.
