Kinetic siphons and glaives

How come I can finish my kinetic weapon calibration with a glaive but it won’t make me orbs with a kinetic siphon equipped? Shouldn’t glaive melees count towards kinetic siphons?

I believe they're considered an uncharged punch. Idk why they can progress kinetic calibration.
