Bungie....I'm worried. REALLY worried.

Today I heard the news that the U.S FTC has agreed to look into loot boxes and thier possible impact on children. This was supported by citing a recent U.K report linking loot boxes to a spike in problem gambling among young children and teens. Now you know that we, as the Destiny community, simply adore Tess Eververse. We adore her myriad of purchasable loot boxes and we have never....ever.....once disputed that she doesn't enhance our gaming experience. We all simply love the ability to spend RL cash on a randomised chance of receive cool loot even if it is just cosmetic. NOBODY has EVER complained about Tess and we're super cool that she has content strictly bound to her and not in the general loot pool. We don't mind at all that resources are being invested in maintaining her stocks and are totally thankful that those resources aren't being wasted by including extra things for players to chase in game. Simply put....#SaveTessEververse. So what will happen (to Tess) if the FTC do find that there is a genuine risk to children and young adults? Crazy I know as you understand how much we all think she's harmless. But what will happen to our FAVORITE NPC if the moronic FTC find some silly reason to regulate loot boxes? I'm worried Bungie....please ease my mind and tell me everything will be ok for Tess.

  • I don't see how Tess engrams is considered gambling anymore when there is a duplicate protection system in place to where you cannot get another duplicate until u have everything. The only thing I can see potential gambling is trying to get god roll perks on eververse armor.

    • What happened to parents teaching their kids life lessons and stuff? Totally get the ire but those who get the angriest about this stuff either have no self control(adults) or were not properly taught about business practices related to things they interact with(children). I get being upset about Eververse a year ago but currently it is fairly unobtrusive.

I have over 12k bright dust and 1,000 silver that I got for "free", when I bought Forsaken with the season pass. I just don't see anything in her inventory that I just can't live without, other than the experience boons that I get, that I spend 50 dust on per day; so I'll probably still have that much, or more when it's over. I don't really see all the fuss over the whole "gambling" scare, when it comes to loot boxes. But then again, I'm the guy that can go into a real life casino, put $20 in the penny slots, and be bored, and ready to leave after and couple of hours. I've never spent more than that in a casino, except once when I decided to buy a drink at one. You'd also practically have to twist my arm to get me to go in the first place. I just feel like it's more of a personal problem, if a person can't control their spending habits, than it is a problem of the opportunity being present. Edit: Also, call me an a**hole dad, but do you know how many times my son has asked me for "Mine-coins" or "Robucks"? I don't know, I lost count long ago. My usual answer is this... "Come here bubby, I've gotta tell you a secret." Then when he gets close, I lean in and whisper, "-Blam!- NO!" and then loudly cackle out as maniacal a laugh as I can manage. He doesn't think it's as funny as I do, but guess what... I don't care. Lol! You know how many times I've actually gotten them for him? I've gotten him $10 worth (because that was the minimum that I could purchase) one time, for his birthday. If the kids are spending money on loot boxes, that is the parents fault, unless 7yo Jimmy has his own job, and is supplying his own means of purchasing them; in which case, I wouldn't worry too much about little Jimmy anyway.

        • No reason to spend any money at eververse. I have 16000+ bright dust and can easily get any of the loot. Doing those bounties that give you a prismatic matrix thing let you get loot too. Not a single reason to spend money at eververse.

          • I’m not for loot boxes, but they have to make money somehow. The loot is all cosmetic and has been nerfed quite extensively. I have no complaints except for my horrible RNG with her engrams. However, all the items become available to buy with bright dust which has also been increased in availability with bounties. Just saying. If this is how they do it, I’m fine. I have bought for her in a long time because of this new system and even before the nerfs.

            • It won't lead to a ban on lootboxes, they will just become more regulated. For example, odds of obtaining certain drops will have to be displayed. You can't trade EV loot online via 3rd party like in CSGO. Eververse will stay in the game as far as I can see.

                • Also, if you're a "young adult" it's not the governments place to protect you from your own stupidity. If you blow your rent money on Fortnight skins that's a you problem. We need to stop babysitting idiots. There is no reason to take things away from everyone because a few people can't control themselves.

                  • I have most crap from eververse, and haven't spent a dime. Once again the government steps in where ,parents should be involved. Why would any responsible parent give a kid a credit card to go online and buy stuff, or at the very least monitor it. If your older, and can't help your indulgences, that's on you, go get help. Can't wait to see you at gamblers anonymous, saying I have an engram addiction. Why anyone is really worried about eververse is beyond me. It's a bunch of crap that I get either from England or brightdust, which looks really nice in my vault, that eventually gets broken down to brightdust.

If you haven't noticed, bright engrams are earned in-game for free. If that's not enough to point out the differences, these engrams drop just drop you stuff that may or may not look pretty; cosmetics which have no impact on gameplay whatsoever. When have loot boxes, ever, been apart of destiny? Edit: Never.

                    • I usually get cool stuff from her whenever I level up and you can get a lot of cool stuff by spending the currency you get from her bounties too. I don't personally spend money on microtransactions is Destiny, but Tess never bothered me.

                    • Good riddance, in all honesty. Eververse is a quick cash grab and Activision knows this all too well. Getting rid of Eververse would force that chunk of extra content to implemented into the game properly. Eva is coming back next Tuesday. If tess leaves? Eva could sell Emotes, Shaders, Ornaments and Ghost projections. Amanda can get her job back and start selling Sparrows and Ships. Zavala can sell Fireteam Medallions / Vanguard Boons Shaxx can sell Crucible Boons Ikora can sell Ghosts. And all of these can be sold for a reasonable amount of mats and glimmer. Everything listed above that could be sold could also have unique counterparts that are found in specific game activities. Much like the Calus Chair emote and Ghost. It would make the game feel like it has way more things stuffed into it, imo, even though all Bungie would do is disperse the content across vendors. Just do it, Bungie. End the cycle.

                      • Not directed at op but all the people in here annoyed about loot box regulations. The longer loot boxes remain in games the more the quality of games will suffer. Game company’s are only concerned with growth. It doesn’t matter that a game makes a bunch of money, if it doesn’t make more money then the last one, it’s considered a failure. Currently we’re at the point where they have pushed micro transactions as far as they can with out suffering major backlash. So the next step will be cutting production costs. Essentially we’ll be getting lazy, poor quality games with more and more emphasis on micro transactions. Cutting out loot boxes would be the first step in forcing company’s to make good games if they want to make a profit.

                        • Tess is dumb and it should all be in the loot pool. That being said, government can stay out of my games and gamers can just stop buying games with loot boxes in them. Glad I didn't buy this game, or any other with loot boxes in at least 3 years. Buy a game with them? You support them. What you think is irrelevant, the shareholders got what they wanted. Quit buying them. Gamers are the problem. Those that so buy stuff from Tess? Literal cancer to the industry.

                            • The only problem is the randomness - it is gambling - if items were directly purchasable with silver and bright dust, there wouldn't be an issue. I'm for microtransactions in theory, the companies just have to stop their predatory behavior.
