What problem does locked loadouts solve?

Please post rational responses, as many people (including myself) don't understand why this was needed. Simply put, new features usually address a known problem, or shortcoming, of a game's current design. What problem does locked loadouts solve? If you like to use the same loadout, what stopped you from just doing that in Destiny 1? I can't help but think the fundamental design of the weapons, enemies, or both will have to change to address this. If every weapon has to work in every situation, how does this not mean everything has to be more generic? Would a situational weapon like Touch of Malice even exist in Destiny 2? That's definitely not something you would want to carry all of a HM raid just to use once. [spoiler]Moderator edit: This thread has been updated with tags that are more appropriate.     • well... there were NEVER locked loadouts... wel atleast that's what they said, it was a miscommunication.... maby you can set up loadouts? like create a class in cod.. maby. who knows. BUT I WOULD LOVE SET LOADOUTS FOR THE PVP!!!!!!!!!! so that they detoxicdize the forums and stuff.

    • I thought of one problem it could fix: Kids complaining that they don't have -insert exotic or raid weapon- and it's unfair to them.

      • I think it helps enforce variety. 6 of anything through the whole raid will limit the group's potential and flexibility.

            It's not designed to solve a problem, it's designed as a mechanic to create teamwork and increase difficulty. The problem with your thought process is that the question you are asking isn't the right question.

              • As the game went on it got easier and easier. It got a lot more casual and the hard option started to go away. The game needs to have some hard aspects to it or some challenges while doing end game. If it is too hard for you than obviously it's not for you so stick to the easier side of the game. If it's fun and you like challenging part of the game than do play.

              • That's the idea though. Different weapons are/should be meant for different situations. That's what makes it interesting and creates weapon diversity.

              • It was not to fix a current problem or issue it was in order to add more difficulty to some activity's. The people who complain about it are doing so because they have to now put some thought and preparation into these activity's. These are the people who want everything given to them for doing nothing. git gud scrubs

                • From what I understand the locked load outs includes your weapons AND subclass. Meaning for the duration of the event (I know it doesn't include raids) you can't change your subclass either. I see the locked load out and nightfall timer going away as soon as the solo player or non-social player base starts complaining. According to Bungie the purpose is to ramp up difficulty and create a situation where planning, teamwork, and team coordinating are vital for success. How often are these three things prioritized in a LFG group, even for a strike or nightfall? Players with no mic and impatient kiddos will have an even more difficult time in this new system.

                  • Makes hard mode raids still a challenge without needing the no revives. It's awful dying to a glitch in a raid and not being able to be revived.

                  • I for one like the locked loadout system. From what we've seen, it's only in Nightfalls, and the purpose is to make them more difficult. We might end up seeing Y1 Arc Burn Skolas-level difficulty from these D2 nightfalls. Ow, seeing as how they have locked loadout sand timers.

                    It's to stop people from soloing activities and to stop people from being able to melt raid bosses in like 10 seconds. Edit: maybe not stop, but at least limit.

                    • My guess is it will only be in nightfall or hard mode raids etc. The main goals are to make it harder and to encourage stronger group coordination. How many people do we want running rockets? What elemental primary is everyone using? Etc I like the idea that we enter a room full of arc shields and then we coordinate those with arc weapons drop shields while others kinetic them for the kill. Destiny 1 everyone had to have the same everything to be allowed in most raid groups

                      • They're attempting to make a fictional game realistic..... in real life you'd only carry one loadout. Well in real life I wouldn't fly a friggen ship and/or kill aliens.
