Like anyone who does strikes, I've experienced a ridiculous amount of afk players hoping to sponge off of my hard work. From that asshole spinning in circles in the corner, to that guy walking into a wall repeatedly because he Rubber-banded his controller; we have all experienced this. Instead of going insane with fury I do one simple thing.
Leave. Immediately.
If this entire community for two weeks could commit to leaving strikes when they see some asshole in the corner spinning in circles there would be no more people afking in strikes. People who afk are like dogs, and have an IQ to match. You reward a dog every time it bites you in the ass, that dog is going to keep biting you in the ass. Stop rewarding these afk assholes and they won't do it anymore.
Sure it would suck for a few days, and we would have to sacrifice our streaks, but those couple of weeks of sacrifice would save you years of headache. I understand that things come up, and you may have to step away for a few minutes. Just know that if you are gone for longer than 10 minutes, you are going to return and find yourself alone in the strike. Most strikes don't take much more than 20 minutes to complete, so if you miss more than 10 minutes of it, you really can't complain if everyone leaves. I think it's fair.
Since Bungie can't come up with a viable fix for this, let's do it ourselves. Let's bump and sign this and see if we can get this community on board.
Edit: I realize comparing afk assholes to dogs is a low blow towards dogs. I love dogs. Afk spongers are more like leeches, nobody likes leeches.

1 ReplyIt used to be worse when the strike without dying bounty was around. They'd just hide while you did the work. Leading a heard of adds to them on a search and destroy mission would usually fix that though. If they won't go to the fight, I'll bring the fight to them.

2 RepliesI've only run into AFK'ers a handful of times. Usually someone just needs to use the bathroom or turn off the stove. For people who are clearly cheating, though, I usually just watch some tv until they leave. They're not going to stay indefinitely.
-
I would love to see something were the guy with more kills gets to be the leader. That way if you are killing shit but there is a guardian not doing nothing then you could decide if u kick him or not.
-
I kill them with sparrows
-
Personally I generally choose not to run strikes with randoms I buddy up and avoid the whole mess
-
3 RepliesI personally have ran into three afk players in the last two months. So it really has not been a problem for me. I do leave if there is a afk player. Bungie could add a system that detects whether a player is in the boss arena or not. If the system finds the player is not, then that player doesn't get drops from the boss.

I do 4 things. Kill them if I can, report them, leave, and tell them if they have something to do then don't ever join to begin with. Strikes take me 5-10 mins with a full team, Im fine with backing out and finding a new lobby if an asshole isn't even helping. Only wastes 30 seconds as opposed to 10 mins.
-
7 RepliesWhat they need to add is a vote to kick option where the person being kicked has five seconds to press B (or Circle) and if they fail to do so, they get the boot.
-
3 RepliesOr you can ruin their K/D by ramming them into walls with a sparrow.
-
I kill them by slamming them with sparrow then leave
-
Yep, leaving is the only option. If you push on and complete the strike anyway, then you are part of the problem.
-
I've seen it. A guy once gave me the excuse that he was too busy taking with his gf. Right. If you're too busy to play, then don't. Otherwise, you're just looking to be carried.

1 ReplyIt's like idling used to be in TF2.
-
Or just play in a fireteam of 3. Jk I understand the struggle. Good point.
-
I must admit, I'm guilty of the rubber band on the controller if I'm going for a pee whilst we are in orbit. I always come back and catch up though. Doing that for an entire strike is just a dick move.

4 RepliesPlayed a few Strikes yesterday, got to the end of Cerberus Vae & this asshat decides to try & continuously kill the boss with his sparrow! 😬
-
18 RepliesThey just need a simple "vote to kick", not like these other, "oh press a button if your here" its not wii were you have to lay the controller flat, its as simple as a vote to kick. And why would they ban a player for joining a game and not playing, maybe they are not mooching, maybe their parent called them over, or they had to take out the trash, or they had to eat. Everyone takes these things so seriously and its not worth stressing over.
-
But u lose your streak
-
Or Bumgie could just implement optional mm then we would not have this problem to begin with.
-
It's what I do as well - but if we have someone drop out of the strike, I still continue on with the other fireteam member.
-
2 RepliesNo tag on the boss = no loot drop. Afks = cheats never win.
-
7 RepliesI mentioned it in a similar post the other day. To end AFK you just need to stop people getting rewarded, simply, anyone with less than 15% (or similar) of total kills is excluded from receiving rep and end of game rewards. It would stop people carrying other people as well, everyone has to contribute or you don't get rewards!
-
2 RepliesI dont mind a vote to kick option. But just to be fair, there have been times where i have had to run and grab something from another room or eat while playing, so i have been afk for at least a few seconds and at most 2-4 minutes. The only thing i hate about leaving strikes is the fact that if i have the vanguard streak going, i will lose it because some afker. So to compensate for that, bungie should just add the vanguard streak to you as soon as you start the strike.

Literally have never seen this

Report and then leave
